Directs and coordinates activities of workers engaged in fabrication, repair, maintenance and installation of machines, tools and equipment. Maintenance of buildings, grounds and utility systems of plant by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate supervisors.

SUMMARY:

Leads and coordinates the Maintenance department - including electrical, mechanical and preventive maintenance activities - for a rubber mixing, extrusion and injection molding facility, directing workers engaged in fabrication, repair, maintenance and installation of machines, tools and equipment, as well as maintenance of buildings, grounds and utility systems, personally or through subordinates. Responsible for department leadership, root cause analysis, resource and time management, and planning to maximize equipment uptime.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Plan and schedule the work of maintenance department.
  • Plan individual jobs and assign proper manpower and expertise to accomplish the job.
  • Analyze the skill levels of subordinates and assist in the acquisition of any training needs identified.
  • Reward and discipline subordinates as appropriate.
  • Establish priorities for the department in line with plant priorities
  • Coordination of maintenance suppliers, while working on Hutchinson projects/premises.
  • Determine capital needs of the department and facilities and assist the engineering manager in capital budget formulation and implementation, including writing CAR's (Capital Approval Requests).
  • Monitors department budgets on a daily basis and assists in the formation of annual plant expense budgets.
  • Assures that the craftsmanship of subordinates is within applicable governing laws and regulations. Manages LOTO (Lock Out/Tag Out), focused on the safety of all team members
  • Oversee usage of utilities directed by plant manager.
  • Oversee all outside contractor work including that being done on machines, buildings, etc.
  • Provides normal duties associated with supervision of subordinates.
  • Assists in the repair of critical equipment when necessary.
  • Leads the electrical maintenance function for mixing, extrusion and injection molding equipment (motors, controls, PLCs, VFDs, up to 480V); ensures technicians are properly trained and equipped to safely troubleshoot and repair electrical systems
  • Leads root cause analysis (e.g., 5-Why, fishbone/Ishikawa) on major breakdowns and repeat failures, and drives corrective/preventive actions to eliminate recurring downtime.
  • Builds, owns and continuously improves the plant's Preventive Maintenance (PM) program across mixing, extrusion and injection molding equipment, utilities and facilities; tracks PM compliance and adjusts schedules to reduce unplanned downtime.
  • Promotes and directs the use of modern troubleshooting resources - manufacturer/OEM websites, online technical forums, equipment manuals, and AI-based diagnostic tools - to speed up root cause identification and repairs across the department.
  • Manages department resources, staffing levels, and shift/on-call coverage to ensure adequate time availability for planned and emergency maintenance work.
  • Identifies and resolves conflicts among maintenance staff, and between maintenance and production/other departments, in a fair and timely manner to keep operations running smoothly.
  • Other Duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor's degree (B.S.) in Electrical Engineering, Industrial/Mechanical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline, plus three to five years of directly related maintenance leadership experience - preferably in rubber mixing, extrusion or injection molding manufacturing - including hands‑on experience with industrial electrical systems (motors, controls, PLCs, VFDs up to 480V) and preventive maintenance program management; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
