Housekeeper - Part Time (4pm-8pm)
The Housekeeper performs a variety of cleaning duties to maintain environmental surfaces in an orderly and sanitary condition throughout a large hospital. This role organizes and completes required departmental tasks in coordination with patient care teams and other support service departments, ensuring a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for patients, visitors, and staff.
Responsibilities
- Perform a wide range of cleaning tasks to maintain environmental surfaces in an orderly and sanitary condition across multiple departments, floors, and common areas.
- Organize and complete assigned housekeeping tasks in coordination with patient care personnel and other support service departments.
- Clean, sanitize, and disinfect patient rooms, hallways, restrooms, and common areas according to established standards and procedures.
- Handle garbage and waste removal safely and efficiently, ensuring proper disposal and cleanliness of waste receptacles.
- Perform routine and repetitive cleaning duties quickly, accurately, and with consistent quality.
- Work independently to complete assigned tasks within specified time frames while maintaining high standards of cleanliness.
- Communicate effectively with patients, visitors, and staff to provide courteous and responsive customer service.
- Use appropriate cleaning products and equipment, including those requiring color recognition to ensure correct application.
- Maintain a safe and orderly work area, reporting any maintenance or safety issues promptly.
- Support a clean, comfortable, and professional environment that contributes to a positive experience for patients and their families.
Essential Skills
- Ability to perform routine and repetitive cleaning work rapidly, independently, and accurately.
- Ability to discern colors to correctly use cleaning products and follow procedures.
- Effective verbal communication skills to interact professionally with patients, visitors, and staff.
- Strong customer service and people skills, with a friendly and respectful approach.
- Basic janitorial, cleaning, sanitation, and custodial capabilities, even without prior formal experience.
- Reliability and consistency in completing assigned tasks and following established procedures.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- No prior housekeeping or janitorial experience required; training is provided.
- Previous experience in janitorial, custodial, or cleaning roles is a plus.
- Experience in customer service or working directly with the public is beneficial.
- Comfort working in a large facility with multiple departments, floors, and common areas.
- Willingness to follow hospital policies, safety guidelines, and cleaning protocols.

Work Environment
This position is based in a large hospital setting with multiple departments, floors, and shared common areas. You will move throughout the facility to support various units, working around patients, clinical staff, and visitors in an active, fast-paced environment. The role involves standing, walking, and performing physical cleaning tasks for most of the shift, using standard housekeeping tools, cleaning agents, and sanitation equipment.
Schedules may include a variety of shifts depending on departmental needs, and staff are expected to follow the hospital's dress code and hygiene standards to maintain a professional and clean appearance.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Yakima, WA.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $20.00/hr eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
