Seasonal Laborer – National Park Service
The primary purpose of the position is to perform laboring duties that require moderately heavy physical effort using common hand tools and power equipment. The incumbent must, on a regular and recurring basis, operate heavy power equipment such as lawn mowers, portable snow blowers, and various hand tools (e.g., shovels, rakes, lawn edging equipment) to maintain buildings, grounds, roads, trails, etc.
Duties- Conduct spot checks of work operations for correct procedures and ensure quality standards are met.
- Load and unload supplies and materials from trucks, trailers, and dollies.
- Use common hand tools and light power tools such as vacuum, industrial shampooer, power drill, etc.
- Walk, stand, bend, squat for periods of time performing job duties.
- Work under general supervision, completing assigned duties after receiving initial oral or written instructions and finishing assignments on one’s own initiative.
- U.S. Citizenship required.
- Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication.
- Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males.

Selectee must participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program. - Uniform:
Required to wear a uniform and comply with National Park Service uniform standards; a uniform allowance will be provided. - Government Charge Card:
May be required to complete training and obtain/maintain a government charge card with travel and/or purchase authority. - Minimum Age Requirement:
Applicants must be at least 18 years old, or 16 years old and meet specific educational or training criteria.
- Ability to perform the work of the position without more than normal supervision (SCREEN OUT).
- Ability to interpret instructions, specifications, etc. (other than blueprints).
- Ability to use and maintain tools and equipment.
- Dexterity and safety.
- Work practices (including keeping things neat, clean, and in order).

Physical DemandsThe work requires moderate to very heavy physical effort. It involves lifting and moving objects over 50 pounds, and in some cases, carrying 80 to 100 pounds.
Working ConditionsThe position involves working both inside and outside, frequently exposed to weather and temperature extremes, drafts, noise, dust, and dirt, and the possibility of bruises, muscle strains, cuts, and scrapes. Work requires following proper safety procedures and using standard safety equipment.
Volunteer ExperienceExperience such as paid and unpaid work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, Ameri Corps) and other organizations can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. Credit will be received for all qualifying volunteer experience.
