About the role:
Under the immediate supervision of the supervisor of buildings, and administrative direction of the facilities director, the custodian maintains a clean working environment for all staff and visitors by performing standard janitorial and grounds maintenance duties.

Key responsibilities:
* gather and empty wastebaskets, change liners, in all offices and work areas, and remove trash.
* clean and supply rest rooms with towels, soap and toilet paper.
* dust furniture and windowsills.
* clean and polish woodwork, brass, marble, doorplates, furniture and other fixtures.
* floor maintenance, including clean, sweep and mop floors; clean carpets, vacuum and spot clean; using dust mops, wet mops and vacuum cleaner.
* clean and disinfect water fountains and/or water coolers.
* move furniture, with or without assistance.
* wash building windows, mirrors and elevator doors and panels.
* sweep and clean building sidewalks and walkways using brooms or shovels.
* remove snow from sidewalks and walkways; spread snow melting salt and chemicals.
* empty outside trash and cigarette receptacles.
* maintain work areas, supplies and equipment in a clean, orderly and proper manner; notify management of low inventory levels.
* attend in-service training and educational sessions as assigned.
* report malfunctioning equipment, lights or plumbing.
* clean publicly used countertops and reception counters.
* lock and unlock assigned buildings or offices; secure building when facilities are not in use checking for unlocked doors and windows; report any unauthorized occupants; turn off lights.
* attend to cleaning emergencies when necessary.
* safely operate all job related equipment.
* perform additional duties and assignments as requested.
Qualifications:
* high school diploma or g.e.d
* previous experience in custodial or housekeeping work preferred but not required.
* possession of a valid driver's license.
