The Robotic Cell Maintenance Technician is responsible for ensuring the smooth operation and maintenance of palletizing robots and case conveyors (Robotic Cell) and other material handling equipment within the facility. This role involves conducting routine inspections, troubleshooting, and performing repairs to maximize system uptime and minimize downtime.
This position will be working at a customer site in Ypsilanti, Michigan 48198 for a fixed duration of 2.5 year (as a permanent Bastian Automation employee). After the fixed duration, the employee will remain an employee of Bastian Automation and transition into a new role which may require at least 50% travel.
Shift- 2nd shift: 3:30pm - 2am
- Four 10 hour shifts between Monday - Saturday, some weekends
- Robotic Cell Maintenance:
- Conduct routine inspections and preventive maintenance tasks on Robotic Cell system components, including robots, conveyors, electrical and control systems.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, and software issues affecting Robotic Cell functionality.
- Execute corrective maintenance activities in a timely manner to restore system performance.
- Collaborate with vendors or internal and external service providers for specialized repairs or parts replacement.
- Perform scheduled inspections and maintenance on conveyors, and other material handling equipment.
- Identify and address mechanical, electrical, and control system issues impacting equipment performance.
- Execute repairs, adjustments, and replacements of faulty components to ensure optimal functionality.
- Safety and Compliance:
- Adhere to all safety protocols and guidelines while conducting maintenance activities.
- Stay updated on industry best practices and regulations related to Robotic Cell and material handling systems.
- Ensure compliance with relevant safety standards and local regulations.
- Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, including inspections, repairs, and replacements.
- Generate reports detailing equipment performance, downtime incidents, and maintenance tasks completed.
- Communicate maintenance status and requirements to the Maintenance Supervisor/Manager.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and efficiency enhancements within the Robotic Cell and material handling systems.
- Recommend upgrades, modifications, or enhancements to optimize system performance.
- Training and Development:
- Stay current with emerging technologies and advancements in Robotics and material handling systems.
- Provide training to other maintenance staff or operations personnel on system operation and basic troubleshooting.
- Less than 5% overnight travel (Travel expenses paid by Bastian Solutions)
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional technical certifications or vocational training in automation, robotics, or related field is a plus.
- Proven experience in maintaining and troubleshooting material handling equipment.
- Robotic Cell maintenance experience a plus.
- Proven experience utilizing voltmeters to troubleshoot electrical and controls issues.
- Strong knowledge of electrical, mechanical, and control systems relevant to robotics.
- Proficiency in using diagnostic tools, hand tools, and specialized equipment for maintenance tasks.
- Familiarity with safety protocols and regulations related to automation and material handling systems.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- Strong communication skills for reporting, documentation, and interaction with other team members.
- Must be eligible to work in theUSAlong term without sponsorship.

- Ability to lift and move heavy equipment and components (up to 75 lbs).
- Comfortable working at heights and in confined spaces.
- Willingness to work in varying environmental conditions, including exposure to noise, dust, and temperature fluctuations.
