We are looking for someone to join Team Yuma as a General Maintenance Worker, working with the Public Works departments at the City of Yuma. The ideal candidate will assist with various manual labor tasks including the cleaning, maintenance and repair of municipal buildings, facilities, grounds, streets, and parks. Under close supervision, assists with general labor and maintenance tasks in various City departments.
EssentialFunctions
- Assists with various manual labor tasks related to the upkeep and repair of public infrastructure, including maintenance of streets, roads, basins, rights-of-way, street signs, sidewalks, streetlights, traffic signals, sanitation, and waste removal; duties may vary according to job assignment and individual skills.
- Performs duties within scope of authority, and in accordance with all safety regulations and procedures; reports safety hazards, equipment problems and emergency situations.
- Follows all safety rules and regulations to minimize risk of accidents and enhance safety of the facilities.
- Learns a variety of general maintenance work methods and procedures, and the operation and maintenance of specialized tools and equipment.
- Supports the relationship between the City and the public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with citizens, visitors, and City staff; promotes the City goals and priorities, vision, values and the “Yuma Way”, and complies with all City policies and procedures.
- Maintains absolute confidentiality of work-related issues and City information; performs other duties as required or assigned.
Education, Training and Experience Guidelines
High School Diploma or GED equivalent required. Some experience in general maintenance work is preferred.
Knowledge Of
- City policies and procedures.
- Occupational hazards and safety precautions.
Skill In
- Using basic tools in a safe and effective manner.
- Following verbal and written instructions and procedures.
License And Certification Requirements
- A valid Arizona State Driver’s License is required.
Work is performed indoors and outdoors at work sites throughout the city; requires ability to bend, reach, stoop, and lift objects; may be exposed to safety hazards and dangerous tools and equipment; safety precautions must be followed, including use of safety equipment.
