Hilltop Montessori School:
Hilltop Montessori School is an independent, secular school in Birmingham, Jefferson County, Alabama offering the highest quality of private education based on the principle of Montessori philosophy. Our student body is composed of children from age 18 months through eighth grade. The environment promotes a child’s discovery, learning, teaching, and growth. Hilltop Montessori’s curriculum fosters within the child a positive attitude toward learning, a respect toward self and others, and an understanding of one’s responsibility to the world.
Montessori Education for Children from Age 18 Months Through 8th Grade:
- Preschool
- Lower Elementary school
- Upper Elementary school
- Middle school
- Children receiving Montessori instruction excel academically and socially and gain the confidence they need to reach their fullest potential.
Toddlers:
Hilltop's Toddler Curriculum includes Practical Life, Cognitive Skills, Motor Skills, Language Skills, Math Skills, Sensorial Skills, Science, Geography, Art, and Sign Language.
Preschool:
Preschool students at Hilltop Montessori study practical life skills, sensorial skills, language skills, math, science, and history. After lunch, students are regrouped by age. While many three and four year olds go home at 12 or 1, kindergarten students remain for additional studies.
Lower Elementary:
Hilltop's Lower Elementary (first through third grade) curriculum focuses on Language Arts, Math, Science, History, and Geography. Extra-curricular offerings including P.E., Spanish, art, computer technology, and music are also incorporated for all students.
Upper Elementary:
Our Upper Elementary class curriculum includes Language Arts, Math, Science, and History objectives. Extra-curricular offerings including P.E., Spanish, art, computer technology, and music are also incorporated for all students.
Middle School:
Hilltop Montessori School offers a traditional middle school curriculum for seventh and eighth graders that is designed to bridge the perceived gap between Montessori and secondary education. The middle school curriculum closely follows the Alabama State Course of Study. In addition to Algebra or PreAlgebra, Literature, Grammar, Science, and Civics, each middle school student participates in art, music, P.E., Spanish, and computer technology classes.
