Summer Spanish Immersion for High School Students

Abbey Road Programs:
Located in Cadiz, on the Costa de la Luz, Spain’s southern Atlantic coast, Abbey Road Programs provides a 3-week homestay Spanish language immersion summer course for high school students in Grades 9-12. With classes for intermediate to advanced levels, students study a major in Spanish Language, and a range of electives including Spanish Conversation, Spanish Culture, Digital Photography, and Flamenco Dance & Music.

Course Title: Modern Spanish Studies in the Arts, Language & Literature, Culture & Society

Daily Schedule:
During your short three weeks with us, students improve their spoken Spanish while embarking on daily excusions and taking part in fun activities. Some of the items on the program schedule include:

- Visits to AcquaLand, Cónil, Los Toruños, Ronda, Santa Maria, and Tarifa
- Dancing the salsa and the flamenco
- Sampling and learning to make tapas
- Exploring ancient monuments
- Kayak
- Bike riding.

Weekday mornings are dedicated to experiential Spanish classes designed to improving your knowledge of the Spanish language and culture while afternoons alternate between your pre-selected elective class and group activities (at least 2 different options each day). 

Evenings alternate between time at the home of your Spanish hosts, and group excursions and events throughout the city of Cádiz. Every weekend, we take groups of students to surrounding towns and cities within Andalusia.

Homestay with Local Spanish Family:
What better way to introduce you to the Southern Spanish culture than by staying locally with a homestay family. Their home (usually a short walk from our language school in the city’s center), is the focal point of your study abroad experience.

We combine time with homestay and time with the Abbey Road group to make sure your study abroad experience is a healthy mix of planned activities and cultural immersion. On average, you’ll spend 4 evenings per week at home enjoying dinner and activities with your homestay family, while the remaining evenings are spent with the entire Cádiz Abbey Road program group.

Optional Travel Extension: Seville and Córdoba
The Cádiz program has the option to spend 4 nights in Seville, the city famous for its century-old flamenco tradition and thriving artistic culture. Students explore lively plazas and diverse neighborhoods, tour the Guadalquivir river, visit the world famous Alcazar, climb to the top of the Giralda tower and more.

Participants also take an overnight trip to the nearby city of Córdoba, a city with one of the world’s most extensive and fascinating cultural heritages.
