An important aspect of the immersion program is the homestay option. Spanish House/Lingoax arranges for you to live with a local family during your time in Oaxaca as a way for you to further immerse yourself in the Mexican way of life. By choosing the homestay option, you receive a private or shared room, one or two meals per day with the
family and most importantly, the opportunity to experience life in a Mexican family’s home.

We also offer lodging in more independent posadas (hostels with meals provided), or hotels (without meals) in downtown Oaxaca.

Oaxaca is a city of approximately 500,000 people and is located in southern Mexico. It is the largest city in the state of Oaxaca, which borders Guerrero, Puebla, Veracruz and Chiapas. Well-traveled by tourists from around the world, Oaxaca is known for its cuisine, art, music, colonial architecture, ancient ruins, and fascinating history.

With its famous churches and squares, museums and galleries, street markets and cafes, simply walking the streets of the city is a peaceful and enlightening experience. The many small towns around Oaxaca, each of which has its own charm and significant sights, are easily accessible by taxi or bus. The beautiful beaches of Huatulco and Puerto Escondido are about 6 hours away by car and about an hour by plane.
