Located in the Miracle Mile area between LA and Beverly Hills, we deliver everyday, conversational Japanese courses which are based on the Japan Foundation’s "JF Standard" rather than traditional beginner to advanced levels.

Accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges, College of Marin is a community college that provides a wide range of programs to students of all ages living in Marin, San Rafael, San Francisco, and the wider Bay Area. Located in Kentfield (3 miles south-west of San Rafael), our Department of Modern Languages offers quality instruction in a range of languages, including Japanese, Chinese, Spanish, French and Italian.

We provide Japanese classes at elementary, intermediate and advanced level that aim to teach you how to speak, read, write, and understand Japanese. In addition, you will learn about Japanese culture, society, ways of thinking as well as a brief history and geography.

The goal of our qualified and experienced Japanese teachers is to enable you to use your Japanese language skills for the future. College of Humanities Undergraduate Programs: Japanese studies at San Francisco State University offer studies in three main areas - language, literature and culture, as well as in translation, interpretation and specialized courses for business applications. The BA degree curriculum satisfies the single subject requirement in Japanese for the California teaching credential. The MA Program is divided into two areas of concentration: Teaching of Japanese as a Foreign Language, and Professional Applications of Japanese Language. Many students enter the Japanese program with definite career goals - teaching, translation, business, and research in diverse academic fields. There are a number of opportunities for study in Japan. Through the CSU International program, selected students may study at Waseda University in Tokyo during their junior year. Scholarships are granted by a local organization and by the Ministry of Education in Japan. Through a University Exchange program, the Japanese program selects students to study at Oita University in Kyushu under a scholarship from the Japanese Ministry of Education.
