J.F. Drake State Technical College:
Based in North Hunstville AL, and serving students across the Madison County area, J.F. Drake State Technical College provides Nursing Assistant (CNA) and Practical Nursing (LPN) certificate programs. We are an accredited institution dedicated to providing quality nursing programs. Our curricula are designed to provide individuals an opportunity to acquire the knowledge, attitudes and skills needed to become safe and competent nursing practitioners.
Nursing Assistant (CNA Prep) Program
As a Nursing Assistant a graduate will be qualified to care for the sick, injured, convalescent and disabled under the supervision of physicians, licensed practical nurses and registered nurses. Emphasis is placed on the development of the knowledge, attitudes and skills required of the long-term care nursing assistant.
This course fulfills the OBRA (Omnibus Budget Reconciliation ACT) requirements for training of longterm care nursing assistants in preparation for certification through competency evaluation. Upon completion of this course, the student should demonstrate satisfactory performance on written examinations and clinical skills.
After completing the Nursing Assistant program, you will need to register for the national nurse aide certification (CNA) examination.
Practical Nursing (LPN Prep) Program
The LPN program has existed since 1965, and this division of instruction is approved by the State department of Education and the Alabama Board of Nursing.
Practical Nursing is a comprehensive course of study that combines theory with clinical practice. The curriculum is designed to provide qualified individuals an opportunity to acquire the knowledge, attitudes and skills to become safe and competent practitioners of practical nursing.
To become licensed, graduates of this program must successfully write the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-PN).
