Newton is a town of around 18,000, located just 30 minutes north of Wichita, the largest city in Kansas. The city was incorporated in 1872 at the western terminal of the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway and the railhead of the Chisholm Trail, a cattle trail that ended in Abilene (current Highway K-15 follows the Chisholm Trail's route). Thus, the history of Newton has always been tied to the railroad.
