Become a Pet Groomer in Grand Junction, CO

PAWS Grooming Academy:
PAWS Grooming Academy is the only pet grooming school in Western Colorado. Located in Grand Junction CO, we provide a Complete Groomer course (500 hours), a Groomers Assistant course (120 hours), and an Advanced Groomers course (up to 40 hours). Students can avail of full-time and part-time options. Our mission is to provide quality pet styling and grooming care, a safe, friendly and positive experience for the pet as well as for the students and staff of our salon, with the sole purpose to prepare our students for careers in the pet care industry.

Beginner to Advanced Level Pet Grooming Courses:
- Full-Time Students: Monday through Friday 8:00am to 4:30pm with one half-hour lunch break
- Part-Time Students: Monday through Friday 8:00am to 12:00pm, OR 1:00pm to 4:00pm, OR three 8 hour days per week. Some Saturdays will be available for classes

Groomers Assistant Course (120 hours)
This course enables students to apply for entry-level positions. Students learn the following tasks:

- Anatomy and Structure, and how this relates to balance
- Bathing and Drying procedures for various coat types
- Breed Identification and Classification
- Client & Pet relations
- De-matting techniques
- Equipment selection, care and maintenance
- First Aid and CPR
- Parasites and treatments
- Prep work
- Safety and handling techniques
- Skin and coat conditions and treatments
- Understanding coat type and texture

Complete Groomer Course (500 hours)
This is a complete & comprehensive course. Student will be ready for the workforce upon graduating. Students learn the following skills:

- Anatomy and Structure, and how this relates to balance
- Bathing and Drying procedures for various coat types
- Breed Identification and Classification
- Breed Standard grooming of AKC recognized breeds
- Cat Grooming Basics
- Client & pet relations
- Clipper Techniques
- De-matting techniques
- Defining coat type and texture
- Equipment selection, care and maintenance
- First Aid and CPR
- Grooming of mixed breeds
- Parasites and treatments
- Safety and handling techniques
- Scissoring and thinning techniques
- Skin and coat conditions and treatments

Advanced Groomers Course (up to 40 hours)
This course is designed for the Professional Groomer/Stylist that wants to improve their skills to the next level. Learned skills could include (but not limited to) improvement on patterns, scissoring and technical skills, Balance, Hand stripping, Clipper-Vac, Scissoring & Thinning shear techniques (thinning, blending, & tipping), Creative Grooming, Preparation for NDGAA/IPG certification, contests or dog shows.
