Natural Medicine
Naturopathy is an umbrella term that encompasses many forms of complementary and natural medicine modalities. A Naturopath is a person who practices several of these forms or modalities and who also has a solid grounding in the medical sciences. The three major modalities within naturopathy are nutrition, homoeopathy and herbal medicine.
ACNT trained Naturopaths are holistic practitioners who throughout this course will gain extensive knowledge in a variety of health sciences including chemistry, biochemistry, pathology, symptomatology, diagnosis and pharmacology. In addition to these health sciences a wide range of natural therapies subjects such as herbal medicine, nutrition, homoeopathy, iridology and other naturopathic modalities are also taught ensuring that ACNT graduates are highly regarded professionals.
Upon successful completion of this course graduates will be awarded the following qualifications:
- Advanced Diploma of Naturopathy
- Advanced Diploma of Western Herbal Medicine
- Advanced Diploma of Homoeopathy
- Advanced Diploma of Nutritional Medicine
The modules may be studied face to face or by distance education, or a combination of the two.
Manual Therapies
Diploma Integrated Body Therapies
Integrated Body Therapies encompasses a wide variety of therapies that involve the physical manipulation of the muscles and fascia of the body as well as stimulation of energy flow and organ systems. Such therapies include remedial massage, reflexology, shiatsu, trigger point therapy, and exercise therapy.
This is the most comprehensive course in Integrated Body Therapies on offer in Australia today and is for the student who wants to study a large number of subjects relating to massage therapy and the musculoskeletal system. Students will learn a variety of techniques such as remedial massage, shiatsu, lymphatic drainage, trigger point therapy, aromatherapy, reflexology, exercise therapy, myofascial release and biomechanics.
This course includes the full curriculum of the Diploma of Remedial Massage course from the National Health Training Package HLT07 and graduates receive this qualification in addition to their Diploma of Integrated Body Therapies. Students also complete the full Certificate IV in Aromatherapy curriculum and additionally receive this qualification.
Diploma Remedial Massage
ACNT Remedial Massage course involves the use of massage therapy and a wide range of diagnostic techniques to treat a variety of ailments pertaining to the musculoskeletal system. A remedial massage practitioner has the ability to provide a comprehensive treatment plan based on their ability to determine the underlying cause of many musculoskeletal problems.
Students will be taught to deal with a wide range of musculoskeletal problems utilising basic and advanced massage techniques such as trigger points, sports injury treatments, myofascial release and lymphatic drainage. A strong emphasis is placed on anatomy, basic pathology, as well as symptomatology and diagnosis.
Cert IV Massage Therapy
Massage is the process of physical manipulation of muscle tissue resulting in increased blood flow and reduced tension, which in turn leads to greater healing ability, fewer aches and pains and a general sense of health and wellbeing.
This course is part of the nationally recognised Health Training Package which set national standards for massage therapists. This course integrates deep tissue therapeutic massage techniques with sciences including anatomy and physiology, pathology and symptomatology and diagnosis. This course also covers exercise therapy and includes 100 hours of practical clinical training. The Certificate IV in Massage course may also be used as a great stepping stone along the way to ACNT's diploma courses and then onto a university degree.
Cert IV Aromatherapy
Aromatherapy is the art of using the parts of a plant that produce its distinctive volatile aromatic chemicals, known as 'essential oils', in a wide variety of functions. An aromatherapist is trained in various applications of these essential oils, such as aromatherapy massage, to promote good health.
This course provides a broad base in aromatherapy. This course covers the principles and application of aromatherapy as well as the underlying science. Students will learn the principles and history of aromatherapy, the chemistry and pharmacology of essential oils, their actions, indications and contraindications, aromatherapy massage, as well as anatomy and physiology, basic pathology and symptomatology.
Sports & Fitness
Diploma Sport
This course is a comprehensive massage qualification and is designed to equip students with the necessary skills to enter the diverse world of sport. Australia is a great sporting nation, consisting of not only the many great athletes but also vast networks of individuals who support the athletes, assisting them in realising their dreams.
In addition to the full curriculum of the Diploma of Remedial Massage course, students will learn how to use sports massage across a wide range of sports making this course ideal for aspiring coaches, trainers and sports massage therapists. Students will also learn sports nutrition, sports psychology and sports taping techniques to assist athletes in both the rehabilitation process after an injury and as a means of future injury prevention.
This course also includes sports management which teaches the development, implementation and management of sports programmes and athlete services as well as staff management, project planning, establishing, maintaining and reviewing records, market research and risk analysis. The sports management component is an important part of the programme and gives students a distinct advantage in the field of sports.
Diploma Fitness
The Government accredited Diploma of Fitness course is setting a new standard in the fitness arena. By recognising the growing rate of discussion based around personal health and fitness the Fitness Industry Training package is streamlining education to ensure high standards are delivered.
This course is unique in that ACNT has combined two separate qualifications from two Nationally Recognised Training Packages. This course is great for those who wish to be advanced personal or group fitness trainers and be able to work in a wide variety of environments. Leadership and self-direction skills will be taught to enable graduates to effectively plan and initiate programmes. Students will specialise in fitness instruction for rehabilitation and for special populations such as children, the elderly, injured persons and those with cardiac and respiratory conditions, and develop injury prevention regimes.
By combining fitness with massage, students stand to gain a deeper understanding of how each part of the body interacts with a fitness programme. On completion of the Diploma of Fitness course graduates will be qualified massage therapists and will be able to offer clients an added specialisation.
Cert IV Fitness
The Certificate IV in Fitness at ACNT trains students to become personal trainers, as such, graduates will be able to operate their own personal training business as well as being a member of a larger organisation such as a gym or fitness centre. Graduates will use the leadership skills learnt in this course to work with smaller groups and in less controlled situations.
This course includes the full curriculum of the Certificate III in Fitness. Students will also learn more advanced fitness modules such as fitness for special populations and personal trainers. In addition the course covers sports psychology, symptomatology and diagnosis for sports injuries and business administration.
