PositionSummary
Our Lady of the Wayside Parish is a vibrant Roman Catholic community of nearly 3,000 households serving "Arlington Heights" and the surrounding Northwest suburbs of Chicago. Rooted in faith and community, the parish offers a wide range of spiritual, educational, and social opportunities for parishioners of all ages. The parish is seeking a dependable, hands‑on maintenance professional to support the daily upkeep, repair, cleanliness, and safety of parish and school facilities.
This individual will work under the direction of the Operations Director and in collaboration with other maintenance staff to ensure campus buildings, grounds, and equipment remain safe, functional, and welcoming for parishioners, students, staff, and visitors.
This role includes a broad range of responsibilities, including preventative maintenance, repairs, janitorial support, event setup, grounds support, and assistance with major repairs and capital projects. The ideal candidate is proactive, detail‑oriented, and able to work independently while maintaining a strong commitment to teamwork and service.
Key Responsibilities Maintenance & Repairs- Diagnose, repair, and maintain building systems and equipment including plumbing, basic electrical, carpentry, doors, flooring, and hardware.
- Perform routine HVAC-related tasks including changing filters, cleaning coils, monitoring system operation, and maintaining related records.
- Support the maintenance and operation of electronics, keycard access systems, fire systems, and security systems.
- Execute preventative maintenance checklists, punch‑list items, and special repair requests while documenting completed work.
- Participate in major repairs and capital projects in coordination with contractors and parish leadership.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization throughout the church, parish center, school, offices, classrooms, gathering spaces, and restrooms.
- Inspect and restock bathrooms daily, including consumables such as soap, hand towels, and toilet paper.
- Provide setup and teardown support for parish and school events, including moving tables, chairs, staging, and related equipment.
- Operate and maintain janitorial and grounds equipment including floor scrubbers, vacuums, snow blowers, and related tools.
- Maintain orderly storage spaces, boiler rooms, maintenance areas, garages, and other operational facilities.
- Perform daily walkthroughs of campus buildings and grounds to identify maintenance, safety, or security concerns.
- Assist with building opening and lock‑up procedures, alarms, candles, and securing exterior doors.
- Support snow and ice removal efforts at entrances, sidewalks, and emergency exits.
- Provide support and coordination for outside contractors and report concerns or issues to the Operations Director.
- Maintain awareness of fire/life safety systems and follow established safety procedures, including coordinating with vendors performing routine inspections and helping ensure buildings remain in compliance with applicable requirements, including "Village of Arlington Heights" regulations.
- Maintain accurate records of completed maintenance tasks, preventative maintenance schedules, inspections, and service activities.
- Communicate repair needs, safety concerns, parts requirements, and project updates promptly to the Operations Director.
- Take initiative in identifying potential maintenance concerns and recommending proactive solutions.
