We are seeking a Data Center Engineering Operations Technician to support critical facilities operations within an AWS data center environment. This person will be responsible for helping operate, maintain, and troubleshoot the electrical, mechanical, and life safety systems that keep the data center running 24/7.
About the RoleThis is a hands‑on facilities role focused on power, cooling, preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, vendor support, safety, and documentation. The ideal candidate will have experience in a data center, critical facility, industrial maintenance, commercial HVAC, electrical maintenance, or similar 24/7 operations environment.
Responsibilities- Operate and maintain critical data center facility systems
- Support preventative and corrective maintenance on electrical and mechanical equipment
- Monitor and respond to alarms through BMS, EPMS, or similar building monitoring systems
- Troubleshoot issues with power, cooling, and facility infrastructure
- Support systems such as UPS, generators, switch gear, PDUs, HVAC units, pumps, motors, VFDs, and fire/life safety equipment
- Perform routine facility rounds, inspections, and equipment checks
- Escort and coordinate with vendors performing maintenance or repair work
- Document work orders, maintenance activity, incidents, and equipment readings
- Follow all safety procedures, change management processes, and data center operating standards
- Support emergency response efforts when facility issues arise
- Work in a 24/7 shift-based data center environment
- Experience in facilities maintenance, critical facilities, data centers, industrial maintenance, electrical maintenance, HVAC, or mechanical systems
- Hands‑on troubleshooting experience with electrical and/or mechanical equipment
- Familiarity with some of the following: UPS systems, generators, switch gear, PDUs, HVAC, chillers, CRAC/CRAH units, pumps, motors, VFDs, BMS, EPMS, or fire/life safety systems
- Ability to follow strict safety procedures and documentation requirements
- Comfortable working in a fast‑paced, highly regulated operations environment
- Ability to work shift‑based schedule, including nights/weekends if required
- Strong communication skills and ability to work with vendors, team members, and leadership
- Ability to lift, bend, walk, stand, and work around facility equipment as needed
- Previous data center or mission‑critical facility experience
- Experience with AWS, Equinix, QTS, Digital Realty, Microsoft, Google, Meta, or similar data center environments
- Electrical, HVAC, mechanical, or facilities certifications
- Military electrical/mechanical background
- Experience using ticketing/work order systems such as Service Now, CMMS, or similar
- Knowledge of 3-phase power, 480V systems, or commercial/industrial electrical systems
