Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent;
- Physically and technically able to perform the essential functions of the position, including but not limited to
- Boiler maintenance and operations
- Heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) system maintenance and operations
- Mechanical equipment maintenance and operations
- Small appliance repair
- Basic carpentry, plumbing, painting and outside work.
- Ability to lift 50 pounds;
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- Ability to read and explain basic operating instructions and blueprints;
- Ability to plan work and write reports;
- Available to work various shifts as required;
- Possess a valid Asbestos Worker's license;
- Possess a valid Illinois/Indiana driver's license;
Reports to: Building Foreman
Function: Provide a safe, clean, and well-maintained environment which facilitates the learning process, and which is consistent with the mission statement of District 215: "To provide diverse learning opportunities that inspire all students to become life-long learners who contribute to their community."
Duties:
- Exhibit a cheerful and customer service attitude to all staff and student personnel.
- Perform preventive and corrective maintenance, routine building operations, routine grounds maintenance, minor construction, and other maintenance-related work as assigned by the Building Foreman.
- Work in compliance with established safety procedures.
- Inspect facilities to ensure safety and security by performing tasks such as locking doors after operating hours.
- Keep assigned work area(s) neat and clean at all times.
- Maintain tools, equipment, and instruments in an efficient and safe operating condition.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements: Position requires employee to reach with hand(s) and arm(s); frequent standing and walking; requires ability to use hands, stoop, kneel, crouch, talk, hear. Occasionally required to climb ladders and/or balance; occasionally required to move and/or lift more than 50 pounds.
Terms of Employment:
- 12-month work year;
- Starting wage is $28.00/hour plus appropriate shift differential
- 30-minute lunch and two paid 15-minute breaks
- 12 days of sick leave, 3 days of personal leave, and 15 vacation days per year
