Position Overview
We are seeking a dependable and service-oriented School Custodian to help maintain clean, safe, and welcoming learning environments across our campuses. This role is responsible for the daily cleaning, maintenance, and upkeep of school facilities while supporting a positive experience for students, staff, families, and visitors. The School Custodian plays a vital role in ensuring our buildings remain safe, functional, and ready to support teaching and learning.
Key Responsibilities Facility Cleaning & Maintenance- Perform daily cleaning of classrooms, offices, restrooms, hallways, cafeterias, and common areas
- Sweep, mop, vacuum, dust, sanitize, and remove trash throughout the facility
- Restock restroom and janitorial supplies as needed
- Perform minor maintenance repairs and report major maintenance issues promptly
- Maintain a safe, clean, and hazard‑free environment
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, and sanitation standards
- Assist with opening and closing the building as assigned
- Support emergency cleanup and facility response as needed
- Set up and break down rooms for meetings, events, and school activities
- Assist with furniture moves and classroom transitions
- Support campus operations to ensure facilities are prepared for daily use
- Monitor janitorial supplies and submit inventory requests
- Properly use and maintain cleaning equipment and materials
- Ensure custodial storage areas remain organized and secure
- Provide friendly, professional service to students, families, staff, and visitors
- Respond promptly to facility requests and maintenance concerns
- Collaborate with school leadership to maintain high facility standards
- Perform additional duties as assigned to support school and organizational operations

- Location:
Bronzeville (Chicago, IL) - Position Type:
Full‑time, 12‑month - Salary Range: $39,150 – $42,139
- Funding:
This position is supported through grant‑funded programs that are integral to ITAV’s education model. - Benefits:

- High school diploma or GED
- More than 2 years of previous custodial, janitorial, facilities, or maintenance experience
- Ability to safely operate custodial equipment and cleaning products
- Valid driver's license
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Preferred:
- Knowledge of OSHA, workplace safety, and sanitation procedures
- Experience working in a school or educational setting
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and climb throughout the workday
- Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds
- Ability to safely operate custodial equipment and cleaning tools
- Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying conditions
