POSITION/
TITLE:
CUSTODIAN/JANITOR
REPORTS TO:
KLEO SHIFT SUPERVISOR
POSITION STATUS: FULL TIME
JOB SUMMARY:
CUSTODIAN/JANITOR is responsible for maintaining and upkeeping the cleanliness of the entire facility under the direction of the Shift Supervisor at KLEO’S Shelter. K.L.E.O. Community Family Life Center believes in providing compassionate and client-centered services that are culturally competent and linguistically appropriate to all residents.
ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES:
- Maintaining facility cleanliness including but not limited to common areas, bathrooms, toilets, toilet seats, walls, furniture, fixtures, washrooms, hallways, staff rooms and storage areas
- Removing and disposing of trash from all areas
- Sweeps and mops floors
- Maintain outdoor surrounding area free of litter, sweep at least 2x daily
- Request and conduct inventory of cleaning supplies
- Maintain janitorial closets and equipment ensuring it is clean, organized, safe, and operable
- Ability to calmly diffuse situations that may arise
- Support reinforcement of shelter policies and expectations
- Assist as needed with special events as directed by supervisor
GENERAL
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Exerting up to 15 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
- Able to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and other federal, state and local standards.
- Able to perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, and other federal, state and local standards.
- Bilingual Spanish or French Creole preferred but not required
- Experience in providing services to homeless residents
- High School Diploma/GED or equivalent experience
- Excellent organizational and communication skills, both oral and written
- Participation as a team player and sensitive to issues of diversity
- Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks and meet deadlines
- Valid Illinois State State Drivers License
- Background Check
