Role DescriptionThe Stationary Engineer (3rd shift) role is a full-time, on-site position based in Chicago, IL. This role is responsible for monitoring, operating, and maintaining building mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems, including boilers, chillers, and related equipment. Day-to-day tasks include performing routine inspections, conducting preventive maintenance, troubleshooting equipment issues, and coordinating repairs to ensure reliable and efficient plant operations. The Stationary Engineer documents system status, maintenance activities, and any incidents, while adhering to safety protocols and regulatory requirements.
The role also involves collaborating with facility management staff and vendors to support continuous, safe operation of the facility during overnight hours.
- Candidates should possess strong Maintenance & Repair skills to diagnose issues, perform corrective actions, and support reliable equipment performance.
- Candidates should possess Plant Operations experience, including monitoring building systems, optimizing equipment performance, and responding to operational alarms.
- Candidates should possess Steam system knowledge, including boiler operation, condensate handling, and safety procedures related to pressurized systems.
- Candidates should possess Water Treatment skills to manage chemical treatment, monitor water quality, and protect equipment from corrosion and scale.
- Candidates should possess Preventive Maintenance capabilities, including scheduling, performing, and documenting routine inspections and service tasks.
- Relevant stationary engineer license or certification in Illinois, or eligibility to obtain one, is highly preferred.
- Experience in commercial, institutional, or healthcare facilities is beneficial.
- Ability to work independently on 3rd shift, follow safety standards, and communicate clearly with team members and management.
- Basic computer skills for work order systems, logging readings, and completing reports.
