Position: Helper A (Union)

Helper A

The Helper A is a union-represented position responsible for maintaining the cleanliness, safety, and general condition of residential properties. This position performs janitorial work, basic maintenance and repairs, unit turnovers, groundskeeping, and emergency response.

Full-Time: 40 hours per week

Schedule:

Monday–Friday, on-call Pay Rate: $27.23 per hour

Essential Job Functions
  • Complete maintenance and janitorial assignments as directed by management.
  • Participate in the rotational on-call schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Perform basic plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, and general repairs.
  • Complete work orders and preventive maintenance.
  • Inspect units, buildings, common areas, and grounds for maintenance needs.
  • Assist with apartment turnovers and move-in/move-out inspections.
  • Clean hallways, offices, laundry rooms, basements, vacant units, and other common areas.
  • Assist with groundskeeping, lawn care, gardening, and snow removal.
  • Replace or repair locks, screens, fixtures, appliances, lighting, and other property items.
  • Maintain knowledge of water and gas shutoffs and sewer cleanouts.
  • Follow company, OSHA, and applicable safety requirements.
  • Assist at other properties when needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant maintenance experience, preferably in residential or apartment maintenance.
  • Knowledge of basic plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, and general maintenance.
  • Must have or obtain required UPCS and union certifications.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Must provide required hand tools.
  • Reliable transportation, insurance, and safe driving record required.
  • Must be willing to travel between properties as needed.
  • Strong customer service, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Physical & Work Requirements

Must be able to stand, walk, bend, squat, climb, crawl, and lift up to 50 pounds. Work may be performed indoors and outdoors in varying weather and property conditions. Regular attendance and participation in the on-call rotation are required.

Union Representation

This position is represented by a collective bargaining agreement between the company and SEIU Local 1.
