SummaryThe Maintenance Handyperson is responsible for assisting with a wide range of maintenance, repair, and facility support tasks to ensure the safe, functional, and well‑maintained operation of the school building. Under the supervision of the Building and Grounds Department and school administration, this position performs painting, HVAC support, minor plumbing and electrical work, snow removal, furniture repairs, pool maintenance, and other related duties.
The Maintenance Handyperson plays a critical role in maintaining a safe, efficient, and welcoming learning environment for students, staff, and visitors.

Reports To and Evaluated By- Director of Buildings and Grounds
Performance will be evaluated annually by the Director of Buildings and Grounds in accordance with District 207's support staff evaluation procedures and aligned to district priorities.
Supervises- No direct supervisory responsibilities. May provide coordination or direction to interns, vendors, and student media teams as assigned.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; additional technical training or certifications preferred.
- Ability to obtain a Certified Pool Operator (CPO) license within the first 12 months.
- Basic knowledge of painting, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and general facility maintenance.
- Experience operating hand and power tools, ladders, scaffolds, and custodial/maintenance equipment.
- Ability to lift 50 pounds and safely move furniture, equipment, and other items as needed.
- Must be conscientious, self‑motivated, dependable, and demonstrate a strong work ethic.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and complete tasks independently with quality and efficiency.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate professionalism when interacting with staff, students, and visitors.
- Additional qualifications as determined by the Director of Buildings and Grounds and Administration.
- Arrives on time, maintains regular attendance, and adheres to assigned work schedules.
- Demonstrates a strong work ethic, self‑motivation, and reliability in completing assigned tasks with quality and efficiency.
- Interacts respectfully and courteously with students, staff, visitors, and colleagues, serving as a positive representative of the District.
- Follows safety protocols, uses tools and equipment responsibly, and reports hazards or unsafe conditions promptly.
- Maintains high standards of workmanship in all maintenance, repair, and facility support tasks.
- Responds promptly and effectively to maintenance requests, emergencies, and building needs, demonstrating initiative in problem‑solving.
- Works collaboratively with the Director of Buildings and Grounds and other team members to ensure smooth building operations.
- Uses district materials, tools, and supplies appropriately, minimizing waste and ensuring proper care of equipment.
- Adapts to changing priorities, tasks, and schedules, including special projects, emergency situations, and seasonal maintenance requirements.
- Maintains professional appearance, attire, and conduct in alignment with District expectations.
- Seeks opportunities for continuous improvement and skill development to enhance job performance.
- Follows all district policies, procedures, and guidelines related to maintenance, safety, and facility operations.
- Approaches all interactions and work tasks with a service‑oriented attitude to support a safe, functional, and welcoming school environment.
- Organize and complete painting projects in classrooms, offices, hallways, stairwells, parking curbs, and other areas as needed, ensuring neatness and efficiency.
