Third Shift Custodian
Maine Township High School District 207 announces a vacancy for a 3rd Shift Custodian- 12 month at Maine West beginning with the school year. The School Custodian plays a key role in maintaining a clean, safe, and orderly environment for students, staff, and community members. This position is responsible for general cleaning, basic maintenance, and building support tasks that contribute to efficient school operations.
The custodian works collaboratively with the Director of Building and Grounds and school administration to ensure that all areas of the building are well-maintained, functional, and welcoming.

Reports to and evaluated by Director of Buildings and Grounds. Performance will be evaluated annually by the Director of Buildings and Grounds in accordance with District 207's support staff evaluation procedures and aligned to district priorities. No direct supervisory responsibilities.
May provide coordination or direction to interns, vendors, and student media teams as assigned.
High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Previous custodial, maintenance, or facility operations experience preferred. Must be conscientious, self-motivated, dependable, and demonstrate a strong work ethic. Ability to operate custodial equipment such as floor scrubbers, buffers, vacuums, and ladders. Knowledge of cleaning methods, materials, chemicals, and safety procedures. Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and complete tasks independently with quality and efficiency.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate professionalism when interacting with staff, students, and visitors. Additional qualifications as determined by the Director of Buildings and Grounds and Administration.
Arrives on time, maintains regular attendance, and follows established work schedules and procedures. Demonstrates a strong work ethic, dependability, and consistency in completing assigned tasks with quality and care. Interacts respectfully and courteously with students, staff, families, and community members; serves as a positive representative of the District. Safeguards sensitive information encountered while working in classrooms, offices, or other instructional spaces.
Follows all safety protocols, uses equipment responsibly, reports hazards promptly, and ensures work practices support a safe school environment. Maintains high standards in cleaning, maintenance, and facility care; ensures school spaces are sanitized, orderly, and welcoming. Responds promptly to requests, emergencies, and building needs; demonstrates initiative in identifying and resolving problems. Works effectively with other custodians, maintenance personnel, and school staff to support building operations.
Uses district equipment and supplies appropriately, avoids waste, and contributes to the longevity and proper care of school facilities. Adjusts to changing tasks, priorities, and building needs, including special events, weather-related duties, and emergency situations. Maintains appropriate, clean, and safe attire consistent with district expectations and safety guidelines. Seeks opportunities to learn, develop skills, and enhance efficiency and effectiveness in daily work.
Follows all district policies, procedures, and directives, including cleaning standards, safety regulations, and operational guidelines. Approaches all interactions with helpfulness and a service-oriented attitude to support the success of the school community.
General Cleaning & Sanitation:
Sweep, mop, scrub, and clean floors and other surfaces. Clean, dust, and wax furniture, fixtures, windows, doors, trim, and other surfaces. Clean and service restrooms, ensuring proper sanitation and replenishment of supplies. Wash interior glass surfaces including windows, partitions, framed pictures, and doors. Collect, bag, and remove trash and recyclable materials from classrooms, offices, and building spaces.
Floor Care & Maintenance:
Clean, renovate, and refinish floor surfaces using appropriate materials and equipment. Properly operate and maintain floor-cleaning equipment such as scrubbers, buffers, and vacuums. Replace incandescent and fluorescent light bulbs as needed.
Building Support & Operations:
Move furniture, office items, classroom supplies, and other equipment as directed. Assist with opening and closing procedures, including locking and unlocking doors and windows. Turn off unnecessary lights and verify that areas are secure. Maintain building entrances by sweeping or shoveling snow and treating icy steps or walkways when needed.
Additional Responsibilities:
