Clean Harbors in Dolton, IL is seeking an Environmental Field Laborer to join our safety‑conscious team. This role involves hazardous waste clean‑up, site remediation, equipment decontamination, and handling hazardous materials in the field.
Key Responsibilities- Ensure health and safety is the top priority by following policies, processes, and acting in a safe manner.
- Engage in strenuous physical labor including lifting and pulling heavy objects.
- Operate light and heavy equipment, hand tools, and powered industrial tools.
- Wear and properly use a variety of personal protective equipment (PPE), including respirators, skin, face, hand, and foot protection.
- Work in various temperatures indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Work in atmospheres and locations with potential exposure to hazardous, toxic, or corrosive chemicals and physical agents.
- Operate in potentially elevated noise levels, confined spaces, and low‑clearance areas.
- Work at elevations, including ladders and scaffolding.
- Assist in field sampling activities and calibration of meters.
- Climb ladders, scaffolding, and into/out of trucks, tanks, and other containers.
- Work extended time periods (over 8 hours).
- Attend all compliance and safety update meetings.
- Inspect drums for container integrity and regulatory compliance.
- Load and unload hazardous and non‑hazardous waste safely.
- Conduct waste‑stream sampling and profiling as necessary.
- Follow all local, state, and federal compliance regulations and rules.
- Operate vehicles safely in accordance with DOT, state, and federal requirements.
- Observ e all corporate operating guidelines and procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Be available for emergency response on a rotating basis (every other week).
- Perform site remediation, equipment decontamination, and hazardous material handling.
- Reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license.
- Ability to perform the physical functions required by the key responsibilities.
- Willingness to be on call for emergency response, including weekends, holidays, and extended shifts (up to 12‑24 hours).
- Successful completion of background check, drug test, and medical examination.
- Compliance with OSHA Respiratory Protection Standard (29 CFR 1910.34) including facial hair standards for respirator use.
- Previous relevant labor or field experience.
- Starting pay of $20 per hour.
