Salary Range
Starting salary is dependent upon qualifications, but in most cases is no higher than the midpoint for the range. $35.7990- $41.8850/HOUR
Nature Of WorkThis is a full‑time Maintenance Worker II role, which performs a variety of unskilled and semi‑skilled maintenance work, and operates a variety of equipment within the Greenways division. Employees may use hand and power tools such as drills, brooms, rakes, shovels and power washers. Tasks require employees to work outdoors for most of the workday in a variety of weather conditions. Work is often performed in heavy traffic, requiring employees to be alert to avoid accidents or personal injuries.
Employees may be assigned tasks of a similar or higher‑level classification to gain experience and training in preparation for advancement. This position requires both scheduled and unscheduled overtime for emergencies, and special projects, including weekends, evenings, and holidays. Safety equipment such as hardhat, safety glasses, reflective safety vest, gloves, steel‑toed shoes, earplugs, face shield and other protective equipment is worn.
Functions
- Clears repair site of loose materials with a shovel, sledge hammer, or air hammer; operates a concrete saw to cut out damaged concrete; builds forms for bench pads, curb stops, and parking lot repair projects; compacts soil using tamper; pours and finishes concrete; shovels, spreads, rakes, and levels asphalt and gravel, mows and plants grass, rakes leaves, lays sod, cleans parks after storms and special events;
paints park equipment; mends and repairs park fences. - Picks up litter, delivers supplies, paints park benches and garbage cans, removes graffiti, plants, transplants, fertilizes, mulches, waters, and prunes City park grounds, shrubs, bushes, and trees; prunes shrubs using hand or electric pruners; removes weeds from around flowers and shrubs by hand or by using weed cutters, prepares soil by operating power or hand tools and equipment such as aerator, roller, rototiller, shovel, garden hoe, or rake;
sows grass seed by hand or with mechanized equipment; unloads and lays out sod; delivers soil, compost, wood chips, and other materials to work site and shovels, rakes, and levels materials; rakes and mulches leaves. - Operates a variety of standard power and hand tools and specialized equipment such as forestry vehicles, brush chippers, chain saws, air hammers, weed eaters, hand mowers, leaf blowers, power saws, and trimming tools, planting tools such as shovels, axes, pruners, flood lights, snow plow, and other required equipment while performing essential functions.
- Drives a dump truck to transport materials; operates controls in truck cab to dump and spread materials on surfaces.
- Drives dump trucks to plow snow and spread salt.
- Maintains City beaches by operating a motorized beach cleaner and removing materials by hand on a daily basis during normal months of operation.
- Maintains sports fields by grading, lining, edging, and raking on a regular basis.
- Prepares outdoor natural ice rinks for use by flooding designated areas on a regular basis during the skating season both at night and during the day.
- Supports special events and performs duties as assigned by supervisor or event team leads.
- Checks the condition of equipment daily and performs pre‑ and post‑trip inspections.
- Performs routine preventative maintenance on trucks, utilizing tools and other, various equipment.
- Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, streamline work processes and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality customer service.
- Uses two‑way radios, mobile telephones, personal computers, cameras, tablets, and any other electronic devices frequently used to communicate and store data.
- Performs a variety of other maintenance tasks assigned to the bureau and agency.
- Will be assigned to weekend shift work from April to November and additional changes to work schedule may also be required.
