The HVAC Technician helps install, maintain, and repair heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems that control temperature and air quality in buildings. This role is hands‑on and ideal for someone with basic knowledge in mechanics, problem‑solving, and working with tools and equipment.
MainJob Duties
- Assist with the installation and maintenance of air conditioning, heating, and ventilation systems.
- Help inspect and repair fans, motors, pumps, filters, and thermostats.
- Use tools, gauges, and meters to test and adjust equipment.
- Support senior technicians with routine maintenance, such as cleaning coils and replacing filters.
- Monitor building systems like chillers, boilers, and cooling towers.
- Follow safety rules and keep work areas clean and organized.
- Record maintenance activities and report problems to supervisors.
- Perform snow removal duties.
- Assist in general maintenance duties and responsibilities.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the administration.
- Interest in working with hands and learning mechanical systems.
- Ability to follow directions and work safely.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Basic math and problem‑solving ability.
- Dependable and willing to learn new skills.
- High school diploma or GED (required).
- Technical or trade school training in HVAC (preferred but not required).
- Valid driver's license and clean driving record (may be required).
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. and work indoors or outdoors in various weather conditions.
Salary Range:
As set forth in the current agreement between the Board of Education of Proviso Township High Schools District 209, Cook County, Illinois, and Proviso Custodial and Maintenance Union SEIU Local 73, CTW, .
