Grounds Maintenance Laborer (Thursdays & Fridays) – Part Time, Year‑Round
Part‑time, year‑round position reporting to the Grounds Department Manager on the Mt. Prospect Park District grounds. The Laborer will perform routine maintenance of parks and facilities and drive district vehicles. Work 16+ hours per week, primarily Thursdays and Fridays; additional evening or weekend hours may be required. Starting pay: $16.00 per hour. Park District employees also receive facility privileges.
DescriptionThe Mt. Prospect Park District, incorporated in 1955, covers more than 454 acres, 11 square miles, and serves a quarter million residents. The district offers extensive recreational programs, parks, and facilities including pools, biking paths, dog park, and athletic programming.
Essential Duties- Operate small equipment
- Perform general park maintenance and cleanup
- Assist with building and grounds maintenance
- Maintain athletic fields
- Provide general assistance to skilled and semi‑skilled maintenance staff
- Carry out any duty related to the physical operation of the Park District
Participate in winter snow removal and ice‑making operations as needed. Respond personally for emergency night and weekend jobs when contacted. Participate in the Park District Safety Training program and abide by policies and procedures.
Secondary Duties- Maintain a neat work environment
- Work special events, nights, and weekends as required
- Collaborate with other departments under supervision to accomplish special tasks
- Perform additional functions as assigned, which may be considered essential
- Perform other duties as required in an emergency
- Minimum 18 years of age
- Valid driver’s license (Illinois Class C if requested)
- Effective communication skills for work coordination and emergencies
- Ability to operate small equipment
- Basic knowledge of common hand and power tools
- Ability to work without supervision
- Participation in Park District safety training program and adherence to safety procedures
- Frequent ascent/descent on >25% grade, lift 50 lbs from squat, push/pull, reach, walk; balance, bend, climb, crawl, crouch, kneel for long periods; sit, stoop; handle objects constantly
- Work in inclement weather for prolonged periods (rain, sun, wind, high humidity, excessive heat and cold)
- Regular and reliable attendance essential
Due to the needs of the Park District, evening and weekend hours may be required. Your work schedule may vary, and your work week may exceed regular hours at times, but will be less than 1,000 hours per year.
