Position: Maintenance Technician I - Groundskeeping (On-Call, 2nd Shift)

Position: Maintenance Technician I – Groundskeeping

Location: Christ Medical Center;
Oak Lawn, IL.

Shift &

Hours:

3 pm‑11:30 pm (2nd‑shift coverage when scheduled); other shifts as needed. Registry/PRN on‑call to fill departmental gaps.

Major Responsibilities
  • Perform facility and equipment maintenance in accordance with applicable codes and standards; document through the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS).
  • Maintain, troubleshoot and repair mechanical equipment such as motors, pumps, conveyors, doors, fans, boilers, heat exchangers, controls, etc., following operating procedures with guidance.
  • Maintain, troubleshoot and repair patient‑care equipment (beds, wheelchairs, carts, tables) that are not maintained by other departments.
  • Maintain, troubleshoot and repair mechanical/electrical systems (pneumatic tube, HVAC, refrigerators/freezers, ice machines, commercial kitchen equipment, electrical, plumbing, piped medical gas systems, specialized water systems) according to operating procedures.
  • Perform routine to minimally complex general maintenance in grounds maintenance, carpentry, painting and snow removal.
  • Respond to emergencies (leaks, floods, water outages, fires, power outages, equipment failures) as directed.
  • Respond to building‑occupant requests promptly, perform zone maintenance rounding and keep requesters informed of status.
  • Conduct preventive maintenance and equipment‑safety checks.
  • Inspect and repair fire doors, hardware, firewalls and smoke partitions.
  • Read blueprints and maintenance manuals required for assignments.
Licensure, Registration & Certification
  • Driver’s license required.
Education
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
Experience
  • Less than 2 years of experience in equipment maintenance.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Basic computer skills including CMMS, building automation system and Microsoft Office.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions
  • Must be able to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, crawl, reach above shoulders and twist frequently.
  • Lift up to 15 lbs. from floor to overhead; up to 50 lbs. from floor to chest‑level; up to 50 lbs. at waist height a reasonable distance.
  • Push/pull with 50 lbs. of force.
  • Exposure to electrical and mechanical hazards; knowledge of safety precautions.
  • Position requires travel; may be exposed to road/weather hazards.
  • Operate all equipment necessary to perform the job.
