Job Requirements

The Custodial/Maintenance Supervisor oversees the custodial and maintenance staff and is responsible for the appearance, cleanliness, safety, and upkeep of District buildings and grounds. Supervisory authority extends to all custodial, maintenance, and sweeper personnel within the schools, along with other activities assigned by the Director of Buildings and Grounds. The position works across all District sites, reports to the Director of Buildings and Grounds, and remains responsive to the direction and vision of each Building Principal.

The role is highly visible and requires daily contact with building administration, office staff, District personnel, and outside vendors. The position carries 24 hour on-call responsibility for alarm response and emergency work, including after-hours, weekends, and holidays.

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. The requirements listed are representative of the knowledge, skill, ability, physical demands and working conditions required of this position. Job Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Five years of maintenance experience within a school district or a large multi-building operation, including a minimum of three years in a supervisory role preferred.
  • Valid Illinois driver's license.
  • Availability for 24 hour on-call response to emergencies and unplanned work.
  • Certification or licensure in HVAC, electrical, plumbing, or boilers preferred.
  • Demonstrated staff management, organizational, and leadership skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to read and write in English.
  • Proficiency with computerized energy management systems, facility management software, spreadsheets, word processing, and databases.
  • Ability to read blueprints and construction specifications.
  • Ability to work effectively with a variety of people in a highly diverse environment.
  • Alternatives to the above qualifications that the Board finds appropriate and acceptable may be approved.
Direct Supervisor

Director of Buildings and Grounds, may receive assignments from administrative personnel as required or assist with special projects as assigned by District administration.
