DescriptionThe Special Facilities Maintenance Worker - IMRF is a Part-Time Position. We offer competitive compensation, PTO, IMRF and an employee discount for part-time employees.
Job Purpose:
This position will perform job duties at the pools, ice arena, dog parks and the gymnastics facilities as assigned. The Maintenance Worker is responsible for cleaning and maintaining facilities, public areas, grounds and equipment in order to ensure park standards are met and facilities are functional, safe and attractive for all users of the Park District. In addition, this position will be expected to provide excellent customer service by effectively communicating and enforcing Park District rules, regulations, and policies to facility patrons.
Essential Functions:
- Perform routine cleaning around the facility including, but not limited to: bathrooms, common areas, concessions, locker rooms, pools, decks and bleachers.
- Safely operate various systems and equipment including pool filtration system, pool vacuums, ice edger, snow blower and all other related equipment following all Park District of Oak Park policies and procedures.
- Perform tasks related to facility upkeep, improvement, preventative maintenance and repair, including painting, ice maintenance, landscaping.
- Perform seasonal facility tasks, pool cleaning, bathhouse plumbing set up, chair repair, ice painting, snow removal
- Keep tools, equipment and supplies in good repair and report any potential concerns.
- Assist with facility operation by efficiently responding to customer questions, comments and concerns.
- Complete all reports, inspections, checklists and other paperwork related to job responsibilities.
- Enforce all facility and Park District procedures and policies.
- Practice and promote workplace safety at all times.
- Become familiar with patrons; know their names, personalities, skills and interests.
- In conjunction with building supervisory staff, ensure proper procedures are followed for opening and closing the facility.
- Wear a PDOP staff shirt and identification during all work hours.
Additional Functions:
- Request equipment and supplies as needed.
- Assist in season changeover and all special event set-up/tear-down.
- Attend staff meetings and training programs as specified.
- Post and remove any flyers, brochures, signs, or other information as required by Park District.
- Complete other duties as assigned by SFMO Supervisor or other Park District administrative personnel.
- Operate Zamboni Machine.
Knowledge, Skill, and Work Experience
Required:
- High School Diploma or GED required. Some college preferred.
- At least 18 years of age.
- Solve problems and multitask without supervision.
- Previous experience with preventative maintenance, painting, pools and grounds work preferred.
- Knowledge of small pumps and other gas powered equipment.
- Safe and correct use of power tools.
- Highly motivated and able to assume a positive and active role, even while working under stressful conditions.
- Exceptional customer service skills and the ability to work with, and direct, other support staff.
- Must be able to complete required Park District training.
- Certification in advanced Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), First Aid and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) within 1 month of employment and keep certification current. The District provides this training.
- Must be able to swim.

- Basic computation skills including measuring, calculating and estimating.
- Frequent crouching, walking, standing, climbing, reaching, bending, digging and lifting.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Will be exposed to inclement weather including heat, humidity, cold, rain, snow, ice and wind.
- Will be exposed to chemicals such as acids, glues, chlorine and various cleaning solutions.
- Protective clothing is required as it pertains to the particular job duty. Examples include: safety goggles, steel-toe work boots, protective rubber or leather gloves, hard hat, respirator, protective suits and outer wear.
- Some exposure to noise, dust, fume and elevation.
Hours:
Must be available to work a flexible schedule as it may change based on need, days, nights and weekends as required. Up to 28 hours per week. This is an Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF) qualified position.
