Job description: Maintenance Assistant

The maintenance assistant provides a variety of standard and unskilled tasks in the maintenance and repair of center grounds and facilities.

• Works closely with and follows the directions from the maintenance director/supervisor.
• Maintains the building and grounds in a clean, safe and orderly condition.
• Maintains and repairs basic functions of the center as determined by the maintenance director/supervisor.
• Takes care of the tools and equipment.
• Makes minor repairs on handrails, windows, flooring walls, ceilings, beds,wheelchairs, geri-chairs, electrical equipment, sprinkling systems, generators, emergency lighting, fire alarms and extinguishers, changes filters on HVAC equipment, carries, lifts and stocks supplies.
• Assumes supervisor's responsibilities in his/her absence.
• Remains on call for emergencies seven days a week, twenty-four hours a day.
• Puts Customer Service First:
  Ensures that customers and families receive the highest quality of service in a caring and compassionate atmosphere which recognizes the individuals' needs and rights.
• Performs other duties as requested.

• High school degree or equivalent
• Must be able to read, write and understand the English language.
• Must have basic knowledge of wiring, plumbing and carpentry.
• Ability to push, pull or lift weights up to 50 lbs.
• Ability to crouch, squat or stand for extended periods.

• Good organizational skills.
• Agile and in good physical health.
• Ability to positively interact with personnel, customers, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel and the general public.
• Provide annual verification of a negative TB skin test.

• Interact with customers, families, visitors, center, and Care Center Facility subsidiary personnel.
• Carries out other tasks as requested in situations where hands-on intervention/participation may be required.
