Description
The Facility Maintenance I position is responsible for opening and closing the Recreation Center, performing daily custodial and maintenance tasks based on facility schedules, and maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for patrons and staff. Duties include cleaning and floor care, minor repairs, inventory control, and assistance with special events.

Work ScheduleThis is a seasonal, part-time position. Staff must be available to work 12:00 – 4:00 pm, Monday through Friday. Extra hours may be available based on facility needs and may include early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.

- Open and close the Recreation Center according to established schedules and procedures.
- Review daily facility schedules to determine and prioritize assigned tasks.
- Clean and maintain facility entrances, washrooms, offices, meeting rooms, locker rooms, concession areas, and gymnasium.
- Vacuum carpeted areas and clean interior windows.
- Mop floors in washrooms, locker rooms, and meeting spaces.
- Perform floor care, including stripping, waxing, and shampooing carpets as assigned.
- Monitor cleanliness and general condition of front and rear facility entrances.
- Log mechanical readings for facility equipment and systems as required.
- Perform minor facility repairs, including ceiling tile replacement, basic electrical work, plumbing, and painting.
- Maintain accurate inventory of custodial and maintenance supplies and notify supervisors of restocking needs.
- Assist with special events, including setup and takedown.
- Operate custodial and maintenance equipment safely and effectively.
- Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) appropriate to assigned tasks.
- Perform all duties in compliance with safety rules, policies, and procedures to ensure a safe working environment.
- Minimum age of 16 years.
- Experience in park, recreation, facility, or general grounds/landscape maintenance, repair, or construction preferred.
- Ability to read, write, and follow verbal and written instructions with minimal supervision.
- Valid Illinois driver’s license required, if operating vehicles.
- Must be at least 16 years of age to operate carts and at least 18 years of age to operate road vehicles.
- Ability to successfully pass a pre-employment physical, drug test, and hearing test.
- CPR/AED & First Aid certification is required within 30 days.

- Knowledge of custodial practices, cleaning chemicals, and equipment operation.
- Ability to perform minor electrical, plumbing, and general facility repairs.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to communicate professionally with supervisors, coworkers, and the public.
- Ability to follow safety procedures and exercise sound judgment.
- Ability to walk long distances (over 800 yards) and stand for extended periods of time (2–3 hours).
- Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, climb, reach, and work on ladders or hydraulic lifts, requiring good balance, coordination, and flexibility.
- Ability to lift, carry, and move tools, equipment, and supplies as required for job duties.
- Ability to work effectively in public view and interact professionally with a diverse population, including patrons, staff, and supervisors.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions, prioritize tasks, and work independently with minimal supervision.
- Ability to safely operate custodial and maintenance tools, equipment, and vehicles using sound judgment and safety awareness.
- Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold and rain.
- Exposure to cleaning agents, pool chemicals, fuels, and other materials commonly used in facility maintenance.
