Athletic Fields Crew Worker I
Under the direction and supervision of the Athletic Fields Supervisor, Athletic Fields Worker I is responsible for performing a variety of athletic field maintenance, park maintenance, turf, horticulture, forestry, custodial, snow removal, and recreation support activities. The Athletic Fields Crew Worker I is on call as needed. This is an at-will position. Hired applicants subject to mandatory Pre-Employment Physical and Drug Screening.
Qualifications/Education
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Must have a valid Driver's License
- Preference given to candidates with previous experience in related fields, such as horticulture or sports turf maintenance.
- Preference given to candidates with some knowledge of field dimensions (baseball, soccer, football, softball, basketball).
- Preference given to candidates with experience prepping sports fields for game usage.
- Preference given to candidates with experience driving with trailers.
- Must have flexible availability to be able to work evenings and weekends.
- Preference given to candidates with a working knowledge of hand tools.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Employee will perform a variety of park maintenance work such as, but not limited to, litter picking, weeding, raking, sweeping, cleaning up garbage, mulching, janitorial duties, snow removal, and other functions as needed.
- Employee will perform preventative and regular maintenance of athletic fields, including baseball, softball, soccer, and football fields.
- Employee is responsible for manual labor up to and including digging holes, spreading, mulch, painting and raking leaves.
- Employee must clean and maintain any and all park pavilions, restrooms, and other assigned buildings.
- Employee must maintain turf, ball fields and other park facilities.
- Employee must maintain the trails, which includes, but is not limited to debris removal, grading, and renovation.
- Employee may operate equipment and/or district vehicles to provide a variety of maintenance on, but not limited to District roads, parking lots, common sidewalks, which includes, but is not limited to hauling gravel and debris. Equipment may include, but is not limited to edger/sod cutter, rototiller, aerator, blower, walk-behind mower, trucks, small hand- equipment and utility vehicles.
- Employee is responsible for the operation of Park District vehicles, tractors, grounds equipment and implements.
- Employee is responsible for conducting weekly vehicle inspections and completing daily basic maintenance as necessary including, but not limited to, washing and cleaning vehicles and checking fluids.
- Employee must document hours and work performed.
- Employee must perform all job tasks within the rules and guidelines of the Streamwood Park District's safety program.
- Employee must demonstrate and support the Park District's mission statement, vision, and core values.
- Employee must be available for other duties as assigned and/or as needed.
Secondary Duties & Responsibilities
- Employee may be responsible for preparing and delivering written and verbal reports on a timely basis as requested by employees of the Streamwood Park District.
- Employee must be able to attend professional conferences, workshops, and seminars pertaining to employee's position, as needed, for new ideas, developments, and techniques.
- Employee must be available for other duties as assigned and/or needed.
- Employee must obtain any other certifications required and/or needed within the timeframe specified by the Athletic Fields Supervisor.

- Employee must be able to follow directions and communicate in English both verbally and in writing.
- Employee must have the ability to read and understand materials, such as maintenance and operators' manuals printed in English.
Psychological Considerations
- Employee must be able to work independently in day-to-day operations with general direction of the Athletic Fields Supervisor.
- Employee must have the ability to delegate work, where appropriate, in order to accomplish work most effectively.
- Employee must demonstrate leadership qualities to perform required work.
- Employee must be able to work in a team atmosphere, while promoting the Park District's mission statement, vision, and core values.
- Employee must have the ability to maintain self-control and composure in difficult situations.
- Employee must have the ability to recognize priorities and meet deadlines.
- Employee must have the ability to receive constructive criticism and/or supervision.
- Employee must have the ability to be flexible and adaptable to new situations.
- Employee must possess enthusiasm and drive with a desire to accomplish goals and objectives.
Environmental & Physical Demands
- Employee may be required to work both inside and outside during various environmental conditions, such as, but not limited to rain and mud, hot and cold temperatures, exposure to dust, fumes, dirt, noise, insect bites and exposure to hazardous chemicals.
