The Village of Wilmette is seeking candidates to fill the Seasonal Leaf Collector position beginning in October and continuing through mid-December. The position will work Monday through Friday, approximately 40 hours per week from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

General Responsibilities

Position works under the general direction of the Street Superintendent and will be responsible for sweeping, raking, loading leaves, and other related tasks required during the Leaf Collection Program.

Position Requirements

Ideal candidate will have experience in general landscaping work, be familiar with tools and equipment used in the industry. Must be at least 18 years old and have a High School Diploma or equivalent (GED). Candidate must be able to follow verbal and written instructions, work outdoors to include during adverse weather conditions, walk or stand for prolonged periods of time, and possess a valid Illinois driver's license.

The successful candidate will be required to provide their own safety boots meeting or exceeding the ASTM F2413 standard for protective footwear; all other PPE will be provided by the Village.

Hourly Rate

The compensation rate is $20.20 per hour (returning Seasonal Leaf Collectors will be eligible for a higher compensation rate).

  • initial eight (8) hours of paid time off (PTO) for the first 320 hours that you work in 2026.
  • additional one hour of PTO for every additional 40 hours that you work.
  • There are no other fringe benefits.

Selection Process

The candidate must be able to successfully complete a pre-employment physical examination, which includes a back evaluation and drug/alcohol screening, reference checks, and a driver's license records check with the Secretary of State's Office.
