Classrooms and Technology:
MLA classrooms have a low teacher-student ratio, where the largest include 15 students. This ensures that enough personalized attention is provided to each student’s individual needs. Our students also enjoy the latest in language learning technology, with one 16-seat computer lab, a 16-seat pronunciation lab, and Smart Boards in 50% of our upper intermediate classes. Despite being at the centre of Calgary’s business district, the school is spacious, with large, brightly lit classrooms and an expansive common area ornamented with a large water fountain that runs throughout the winter.
Maple Leaf Academy is affiliated with Citizenship and Immigration Canada. It is also accredited by Languages Canada, the Alberta Association of Career Colleges and the National Association of Career Colleges. All of the school’s management staff are ATESL members as are many of its individual teachers.
MLA conforms to the Canadian Language Benchmark System, where the student finishes with a proficiency grade referred to in Canada for employment and educational purposes. Maple Leaf Academy has built a reputation for quality since 1991. Combined with the dynamism of Calgary, studying English at MLA offers a unique and unforgettable experience.
Maple Leaf Academy is located in Downtown Calgary. It is next to the 6th street station of the C-Train, within the Free Fare zone. It is moments away from shopping, restaurants, pubs, transportation and tourist attractions such as the Calgary Tower, Shaw Millenium Park and Prince's Island Park. In the summer, it is also along the parade route of the annual Stampede Parade, where western Canadian and First Nations culture is on spectacular display.
Calgary, is currently the fastest growing and most dynamic city in Canada. Despite its recent econonomic and demographic growth, Calgary is still known for its cleanliness, low-crime rate, beauty, great outdoors and vibrant western culture. Its extensive cycling trails and numerous large parks also make it an attractive location for the more outdoor-minded. In addition, it is at the doorstep of the magnificent Rocky Mountains, visible on the horizon from downtown.
Located in the downtown core of Calgary, Maple Leaf Academy is close to numerous rental options. Apartments can be rented in the same building as the school, as well as in other buildings nearby. Most international students prefer to live in a homestay arrangement, provided by MLA at their request. Choosing the homestay option has several advantages, including cheaper monthly costs as well as the experience of living with and learning about Canadian language and life from a local family. Many homestay families even provide extracurricular activities for the students, including sports, visits to Calgary attractions and out of town trips to Banff, Edmonton and Drumheller.
