NC Music Center, Charlotte:
NC Music Center in Charlotte in Mecklenburg County, NC, offers year-round music instruction classes for children throughout Charlotte, Ballantyne, Matthews and South Park. We teach piano, guitar, violin, voice, & percussion to children from the age of 3 from beginner to advanced levels. We also offer choir and band. We offer students the opportunity to learn how to play and read music and also music theory, ear training, music history, composition, songwriting, recording and various opportunities to perform for others.
Beginner - Professional Music Courses for Children & Teenagers:
NC Music Center strives to offer a diverse curriculum to enable an adequate learning environment for each individual student. Traditional piano lessons are offered and are based on classical technique and repertoire. We encourage our students creativity and provide the education to enable them to freely create. Many of our students build skills in Sight Reading, Classical, Hymnals, Pop, Broadway, Jazz etc. and combine all of those skills to perform their own music. Students are encouraged to take part in all of the available classes provided.

Group Piano Lessons:
The small group piano lab includes performing for each other, theory / musicianship, duets and music history. They develop a sense of being part of a team and making a team effort. This class consists of an individual piano lesson for each participant as well as group theory, moving games and occasionally music computer games. The setting is suitable for all ages. Children will gain greater confidence and delight in piano playing by learning simple and enjoyable pieces in a fun-filled and encouraging atmosphere.
Music Theory:Music Theory is a very important part of understanding music. Students are offered music theory class for a more in-depth look into theory and to fully understand the rudiments of music. Emphasis is placed on music notation, rhythmic patterns, scales, key signatures, intervals, chords, fundamental melodic, rhythmic, and harmonic analysis, introduction to part writing, ear-training, and sight-singing.
Composition:
Students are encouraged to be creative in the very first lesson. Many of the students build upon those skills by composing music. Our composition class helps beginning composers as well as advanced. Many students take this class and are surprised to know that they can create very beautiful music. Ms. Florence Smith is the Instructor for Composition and she is very patient as she guides and instructs the students. She is very open-minded to all styles of music. We use Finale Workbook to create a professional copy of student's
written work.
Private Lessons:
Music Lessons are offered to skill levels from Beginner to Professional for several musical styles. Various styles of teaching include classical, hymn, pop, and also music theory.
Choir:
The choir is open to all students who are interested in singing all types of music from Baroque to Broadway. The NC Music Center Children’s Choir (NCMCCC) is comprised of children between the ages of seven and twelve who have demonstrated the ability to match pitch. The children improve their vocal production and performance skills through unison and two-part singing. By learning note reading and basic score reading, the children also gain vocal independence.
The benefit of participating in this course allows your children the freedom to explore their voice and have fun. All children benefit from experiences with music. Music enhances learning, especially language development. Children's experiences with music build vocabulary, listening skills, and language acquisition.
Each class will consist of students learning to read music by doing theory and other music activities, games, and fun all while learning to sing.
Band:Band is for beginners through advancing players on all concert instruments. Learning to play together as a team, mastering your part, putting it all together as a stage performance, learning about basic styles and concepts is covered each week. Our teachers are professional "gigging" musicians with university training and real-world playing experience. Basic music theory concepts are also taught using examples from the songs the bands are playing.
We focus on how music is put together with intervals, patterns, chords, steady beat and basic rhythms and rhythmic notation, 12-bar form and improvisation. Students move ahead in their skill levels at their own pace, and the teacher assigns parts appropriate for each band member. Popular (classic and contemporary), and familiar classics.
