Joyce E. Benson Elementary School is a private elementary school located in Hallandale, Broward County in the South Florida Metro Area. We offer programs for kindergarten - 5th grade, as well as a performing arts academy with classes including art, theatre, technology, physical education and music. We also offer before-school and after-school child care services. Our fully accredited program addresses each child individually. Our longtime teachers and staff are dedicated to helping each child discover their unique potential – academically, socially, and inter personally.

School Curriculum:
Our curriculum is designed to challenge young people who are dedicated to becoming the best they can be. Although not a program for every child, Joyce E. Benson offers students from Kindergarten through to Fifth Grade an opportunity to achieve beyond where they think they can go. Children are encouraged to question, to explore, to wonder, and to solve problems. They are given opportunities to push themselves, to work hard, and to experience the satisfaction that comes from setting goals and persevering until those are reached.
Our elementary curriculum focuses on developing basic skills. Yet, our elementary teachers always have their eyes on the “big picture” and understand that they are building the foundation that will help their students become responsible citizens who are good thinkers, able communicators, scientifically literate, and mathematically powerful.
Performing Arts Academy Programs:
- Theatre: Learn to orient themselves with others as well as self, explore self-expression through creative dramatics, and learn a basic theatre vocabulary. Introduced to rhythm, movement and vocal techniques, and will learn about other cultures through folklore stories and multi-culture performances.
- Art: Learn basic elements and principals of design, correct use of materials and supplies, and become aware of art in their world. Introduce famous artists and create artwork that reflects a variety of cultures and styles of art. As well as to expand the basic skills to personal self-expression in artwork. Use the elements and principals of design as a visual language to express feelings and emotions through the use of a wide variety of media and techniques. Famous artist works from a variety of styles, cultures, and historical eras will show the student the importance of art as a form of communication. Learn how art is related to all areas of life.
- Physical Education: Utilize activities to enhance the total learning process. Develop an understanding of space awareness concepts, sake practices, and sportsmanship. Master basic locomotor and non-locomotor skills. Develop an understanding of body awareness and the importance of exercise. Participate in simple games, physical and movement exercises. Also to participate in physical activities, simple games, and movement activities. Master age appropriate locomotor and non-locomotor skills and combine patterns.
Demonstrate sportsmanship and safe practices in physical activity settings and learn the importance of exercise and living a healthy life. Activities will enhance the total learning process.
- Technology: Technology is interwoven throughout the curriculum to prepare our students for today's world. The students are enrolled in educational programs to enhance literacy as well as programs and instructions based on the frameworks set by the state and district. Beginning in kindergarten students are taught the basic keyboard functions. Implementation of writing and visual arts enhances their learning. Students continue to focus on technology in the school's computer and classroom labs. technology is expanded in the Fine Arts Department through Broadcasting and the Communications Department. Students publish and create original works using the latest equipment.
- Music:
Piano: Its been a proven fact that students with musical abilities go a long way. In this class students will be taught the fundamentals of playing a piano or keyboard. From Beethoven to Chopin your child will excel.
Woodwind Ensemble: If your child wants to learn how to play flute, clarinet or saxophone, then this class is for your child. Each child will have a hands-on interaction with woodwind instruments.
Brasswind Ensemble: If your child wants to learn how to play trumpet, trombone or tuba, then this class is for your child. This is also a hands-on class. Students will perform at annual events as well as in the community.
Percussion Ensemble "Drumline": This class will focus on learning rudiments and basic rhythm techniques. This is will be a highlight group of the school.They will perform in events local and county wide.
