Computer Reservations System (CRS) Training:
A Computer Reservations System (CRS) is a computerized system used by airlines and travel agents to conduct transactions related to travel, such as airline reservations, car rental, and booking of train travel, cruises, and hotel rooms. A CRS that book and sell tickets for multiple airlines are also known as Global Distribution Systems (GDS). Some of the most widely-used CRS systems include Galileo (known as Apollo in North America and Japan), Amadeus, Sabre and Worldspan.
Galileo / Apollo:
Galileo was formed in 1987 by nine European carriers - KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, British Airways, Alitalia, Austrian Airlines, Swissair, Olympic, Air Portugal, Sabena and Aer Lingus. A CRS may also be known as a Global Distribution System (GDS) if they book and sell tickets for multiple airlines. Galileo connects approximately 63,000 travel agencies worldwide to 460 airlines, 82,000 hotels, 29,000 car rental locations, 7,000 tourist attractions, and leading tour operators and cruise lines throughout the world. Galileo is known as Apollo in North America and Japan.
Knowledge of the Galileo CRS system definitely gives students in the travel and tourism field a distinct advantage over other applicants. Galileo is a member of IATA (International Air Transport Association), OTA (OpenTravel Alliance) and SITA (Société Internationale de Télécommunications Aéronautiques).
Amadeus:
Amadeus was formed in 1987 by an alliance between Lufthansa, Air France, Iberia Airlines and Scandinavian Airlines System, as a European alternative to Sabre, the American GDS. The group services customers including airlines, travel agencies, hotels, ferry and cruise lines, tour operators, insurers, car rental and railway companies, and individual travellers directly. Amadeus holds around 35% of the global travel market and is widely used throughout Europe and Asia.
Sabre:
Headquartered in Southlake, Texas, Sabre is a Global Distribution System (GDS) that serves airlines, hotels, online and offline travel agents and travel buyers. As the world’s largest electronic travel reservation system, we are a primary component for travel and transportation information for over 55,000 travel agencies, Fortune 500 companies, major travel suppliers, and travel websites worldwide.
Worldspan
Worldspan is a powerful Global Distribution System (GDS) used by airlines, travel agents and travel-related websites for ticketing and inventory purposes. Established in 1990 by Northwest Airlines, Delta Air Lines, and TWA, it is used throughout the world, including in the USA, Europe, and the Middle East. In addition to being used for airline reservations, Worldspan is also used to book rental cars, hotel rooms, tour packages and associated products. It is notable for its web-based interface and quick connection with both local and international servers.
