Allied Health / Medical Career Training Programs:
Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) Program:
- Duration: 6 weeks
Upon completion of this course, the nurse aide student will be able to:
- Demonstrate competency in skills and techniques necessary to care for patient’s needs.
- Exhibit competency in skills necessary to maintain or improve patient’s functioning.
- Communicate and interact competently with patients, family members, and care teams on a one-to-one level.
- Demonstrate sensitivity to patient’s cultural, emotional, social, mental, and physical needs through appropriate interactions.
- Assist patients in attaining and maintaining functional independence.
- Demonstrate behavior in support and promotion of patient’s rights.
- Demonstrate skills in observation, reporting, and documentation needed to participate in the assessment of patient’s health, physical condition, and well-being.
Medication Aide (Med Tech)
- Duration: 68-hour Course
Course content includes but is not limited to:
- Preparing for safe administration of medications to clients in assisted living facilities
- Maintaining aseptic conditions
- Understanding of basic pharmacology
- Facilitating client self-administration or assisting with medication administration
- Following proper procedure for preparing, administering, and maintaining medications; and
- Following appropriate procedures for documentation and reporting to the licensed healthcare professional on duty at the facility or to the client’s prescriber.
Caregiver Basic Training Course:
- Duration: 4 hours
- Day and evening courses available
- Entry Requirements: Minimum Age 18 / Must be able to speak and understand English
Personal Care Aide (PCA)
This program has been developed by the Department of Medical Assistance Services (DMAS) to establish a uniform training curriculum.
Its purpose is to train and teach qualified persons to provide personal care services under Medicaid Waivers. DMAS hopes that this program will assist in recruiting and retaining qualified personal care aides.
CPR/ AED/ First Aid Training:
The courses in this program teach the knowledge and skills needed to give immediate care to an injured or ill person and to decide whether advanced medical care is needed.
