St. Matthew's School:
St. Matthew's School, located on St. Paul's West Side, Minnesota, is a small Catholic school that educates students from Kindergarten to 8th grade. St. Matthew's School believes in the dignity and value of each child. We believe that each child is a gift from God and a promise for tomorrow. These core beliefs have helped us shape a school environment that is second to none in its commitment to academic excellence, spiritual formation, appreciation for diversity, and one that instills a sense of responsibility for each child's place in this world.

Who we are:

Photo of Private School in St. Paul, MNOur student body is both ethnically and economically diverse. Many of our students live on the West Side while others come from neighboring communities including West St. Paul, Mendota Heights, South St. Paul and Inver Grove Heights. While our student body is diverse, what our students and their families have in common is a strong commitment to a rigorous education, Catholic values and service to community.

A Historic Institution:
St. Matthew’s School, founded in 1887, is a historic institution on St. Paul’s West Side. Originally St. Matthew’s parish and school served a rural, German community. Today, the West Side is considered an inner-city neighborhood that is largely Latino. But what hasn’t changed over all those years is St. Matthew’s commitment to the community and it’s children. For well over a century, St. Matthew’s has stood as a beacon of hope and opportunity to children and their families. And the values that St. Matthew’s was founded in, the values of St. Matthew’gospel, are alive today and illuminate the path to the future.

Committed To Staying Small:
When we say, "small", we mean we are committed to maintaining an enrollment that does not exceed 200 students. Our average class size of 16 students guarantees each child plenty of individual attention. Keeping our school small means that each child has the opportunity to lead, to serve, to explore and develop their talents. As a result, when St. Matthew's students move on to much larger high schools, they stand out academically and are frequently awarded academic honors. Staying small also allows teachers, students and families to develop a bond and sense of community that can't be duplicated in a big school environment.
