Children in IPC schools are active participants in their education and true citizens of the world: they understand and appreciate other cultures, are encouraged to question and discover, and develop personal skills such as adaptability, thoughtfulness, and respect.
Early Years Program:
Students in Nursery and Reception classes, ages 3 to 5, follow a curriculum that is tailored to the developing needs of young students and combines the UK government's Early Learning Goals and the International Primary Curriculum.
This Foundation Stage covers six distinct areas of learning:
- Personal, social and emotional development
- Communication
- Language and literacy
- Mathematical development
- Knowledge and understanding of the world
- Physical development and creative development
This two year program is designed to lay secure foundations for future learning. Through play, children can explore, develop their curiosity and use their imagination to help them make sense of the world. Literacy and math concepts are developed through fun and practical activities and tailored to children’s individual needs. Learning experiences are stimulating and combine both teacher led and child initiated activities.
The Early Years curriculum not only acts as a transition between home and school but also starts children off with the learning habits necessary to become successful lifelong learners.
Primary Years Program:
- Years 1 and 2 (Kindergarten and 1st Grade)
- Years 3 to 6 (2nd to 5th Grade)
The English National Curriculum and the International Primary Curriculum (IPC) provide the framework for educating students in Years 1 to 6 (ages 5 to 11). The core subjects of Maths and Literacy are taught using guidelines set out in the English National Curriculum and linked with the IPC. The IPC is a cross-curricular, rigorous teaching program that incorporates science, history, geography, information communication technology, art and design technology into thematic units. Music and physical education are integrated throughout the program.
Children spend three to six weeks on units of work which are based around interdisciplinary themes, contemporary in nature, and of real interest to children so they are both enthusiastic participants and are engaged in their learning. This extended period of study allows students to approach topics from multiple perspectives and to make meaningful connections between what they learn in the subjects studied.
Focusing on three standards – academic, personal development and international mindedness – the IPC provides a creative and innovative curriculum that prepares children, wherever they may live in the future, for the world of tomorrow by embedding internationalism into every IPC unit to ensure our children grow up with a very clear global understanding.
