Monsignor Donovan High School, Toms River:
Located in Toms River, Ocean County, New Jersey, Monsignor Donovan High School is a private Catholic school serving 9th through 12th grade. The Catholic community of Monsignor Donovan High School educates its students to live their faith, respect and serve others, and pursue academic excellence in a college preparatory environment. To fulfill our mission, we have developed a strong curriculum that includes a wide range of subjects, recognizes various ability levels, and nurtures students' curiosity and creativity.
English:
The English Department provides opportunities for all students of differing abilities and levels to advance successfully in critical thinking, reading, writing, and researching skills through a curriculum that incorporates the study of grammar, composition, and rhetoric.
All courses require some typed assignments. Students read, analyze, and respond to fiction and non-fiction, multicultural, classical, modern, and young adult literature. Courses within the Department constantly evolve to address student needs. Elective offerings include intense study of creative writing and theater and journalistic arts.
Social Studies:
The Social Studies curriculum focuses on the development of informed, active citizens who function effectively within the American democratic system. Students learn to integrate concepts gleaned from areas of sociology, psychology, political science, world and American history.
Critical thinking as well as oral and written presentations form the cornerstones of departmental activities. Students also learn to appreciate the richness of cultural diversity in the United States and to comprehend the increasing inter-dependence of the global community.
Math:
Members of the Mathematics Department strive to ensure that all students experience success in mathematics. Teachers encourage students to complete five terms of math. To realize this goal, the department offers a variety of courses at various levels of expertise. The learningenvironment encourages students to work together to reason mathematically, to solve problems, and to explore the connections between mathematics, its theories, and its applications.
Science:
In a student’s development, science combines the specific skills characteristic of science with an understanding of the relationship of science and technology to other aspects of human activity. The faculty presents science not only as an accumulation of assumptions, theories, principles, laws and facts, but also as a dynamic
process of inquiry through which these major scientific concepts have been and are being derived. Thus, a solid science background provides valuable aid in finding creative solutions to complex human problems.
World Languages:
World languages include Spanish, Latin and Italian.

Subjects include computer application, basic and advanced accounting, business and personal law.
Fine and Performing Arts:
We offer courses including music lessons, choir, concert band, art, drawing.
Advanced Placement and Honors Courses:
We offer AP and honors courses in all subject areas.
College Preparatory Courses:
We provide college prep courses for SAT and ACT.
