The primary classroom is a mixed-age community that benefits both the older and younger members. A deep sense of caring and respect for one another and the environment is fostered and nurtured as children help each other, care for their classroom, and work together to solve problems. Grace and courtesy are important components of the environment.

The environment is filled with furniture and equipment that fit the size of the child, enabling the child to be self-sufficient while at work. This reflects the inherent respect for the child that is the basic tenet of the Montessori philosophy. The primary-aged child's need for order is reflected in the highly organized nature of the environment.

Elementary Program:

The elementary program continues with many of the same principles used in the primary program. Children move from the simple to the complex and from the concrete to the abstract. They exercise freedom in choosing work and with whom they will work. The teacher limits the freedom when necessary in respect to the rights of others. Children learn to maintain this balance between liberty and limits.

The elementary program is rich in activities which foster the child's intellectual, emotional, and physical development. Subjects explored in depth include: History, Geography, Zoology, Mathematics, Botany, Geometry, LImage of Montessori School in Reno, NVanguage, Music and Art.

The Montessori elementary class is a six year program, with two levels, grades one through three (lower elementary) and grades four through six (upper elementary).

Adolescent Program (12-14 years of age):
Mountain View Montessori's adolescent program meets the needs of the 7th and 8th year students who are entering the third plane of development.

Academic needs are met by a program that includes humanities, language arts, math, science, and foreign language. Spanish, drama, art, music theory, community service and business discovery are additions to the core curriculum.

The physical needs of the adolescent are fulfilled by such activities as gardening, recycling, landscaping, woodworking, hiking and other opportunities as designed by the students. Environmental responsibility and accountability are emphasized.

Developmental needs are met by planning and experiencing a wide range of practical life activities, with attention to the evolution of a personal vision.

Social needs are met by the opportunity to become competent in a multitude of experiential settings, along with daily interaction as a part of a plutonic group that offers mutual support and trusting relationships.

Before & After Care:
We offer before and after school care programs for all ages.
