International House Language Centre Palermo:
International House Language Centre in Palermo, Italy, is a Teacher Training and Language School offering the Cambridge CELTA (Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults) teacher training programs in a four-week face-to-face intensive format or in an 11-week online format. Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults (CELTA):

Intensive CELTA Course (4 weeks):
The Cambridge CELTA course is very demanding. The attendance requirement is 100% and in addition to the 10:00 to 18:00 workdays at International House Palermo, you will need most evenings and weekends (during the intensive component) for homework tasks, written assignments, lesson planning, and materials preparation. The course is challenging, but most trainees enjoy and thrive on the work! As a CELTA trainee, you will be working in large, modern classrooms, and you will have access to a quiet workroom for lesson preparation and self-study. International House Palermo has materials for your exclusive use as a CELTA trainee, including a variety of up-to-date books on methodology, grammar, and activity books for use in the classroom. Additionally, you will have access to other areas open to students at International House Palermo, such as the recreation area and the computer laboratory. Typically, mornings are devoted to input, and afternoons to supervised teaching practice, feedback, and assisted lesson planning. Teaching practice starts on the second session of the course.

CELTA Course Online (11 weeks):
The CELTA online course is based on the part-time model. However, instead of coming into the centre premises to do both input sessions and to do your teaching practice, you will do the input sessions online, working through multimedia materials, doing interactive tasks, discussing topics with other course participants and your tutor in forums and collaborating with other course participants in a virtual classroom. Teaching practice, feedback, supervised lesson planning and live observation will require coming into the centre. Please note that the materials require participants to be online and cannot be downloaded or worked on off-line. This is for security and to allow progress monitoring.

Young Learner Extension to CELTA (CELTYL):
- Summer Intensive CELTYL
The YL extension to the CELTA is for those who have little or no previous experience of teaching young learners and have previously been awarded the CELTA. The course is designed to enable CELTA holders to and build on and transfer the skills and knowledge from their CELTA course to the area of teaching young learners.

InSeT (In-Service training):
The Director of Studies (DoS) is responsible for IH Palermo's in-service teacher training programme (InSeT). There is a regular observation programme, including peer observation, when cover permits. For new teachers there are at least 2 formal observations and 2 PDIs (Professional/Personal Development Interviews). One at the end of October / beginning of November and one in March / April. All teachers, both Italian and English, are followed closely by the Director of Studies. There are fortnightly seminars / workshops which aim to develop the teachers' awareness of both current methodology and the theory underlying it. We aim to provide our teachers with the tools they need to ensure a high quality of language teaching and learning.

TKT (Teaching Knowledge Test):
TKT stands for Teaching Knowledge Test. This test verifies the teaching English abilities of those who speak other languages. It fulfils the international standards and assures the necessary knowledge that a candidate needs.
