How long does it take to achieve fluency in Russian?
The time it takes to achieve fluency in the Russian language depends on the student. The amount of focused study completed outside of class is an important factor in becoming fluent. The student's commitment, level of motivation, previous experience studying other languages and freedom from the fear of making mistakes are also determining factors. Washington Academy of Languages provides opportunities for practice with native speakers too. Ask about our Conversation Partner program!
About the Russian Language:
Russian is an East Slavic language and is spoken in regional dialects. The modern dialect of Moscow is used in the Washington Academy of Languages' instructional programs. Because Russian has a different alphabet, it takes more time to master than does, for example, a Romance language.
Will other colleges/universities accept credits earned at Washington Academy of Languages?
Accredited colleges and universities throughout the US have accepted credits from Washington Academy of Languages classes; the student must take the Washington Academy of Languages course for university credit. Institutional policies differ so please check with the specific university regarding their transfer credit requirements. The Washington Academy of Languages in Seattle, is a language school offering day and evening classes to students of all levels and abilities. Our German classes emphasize modern spoken German. From the first class meeting, students and instructors alike speak as much German as possible. Grammar is studied not as an exclusively abstract system, but as a reference base for active language use.
The majority of classroom time is used speaking German, as opposed to talking about German in English. Culture is also an integral component of all our language courses and is presented through role play and activities while students are learning the language in communicative situations.
