The Upper School provides a forward-looking education as it prepares its students for a rapidly changing and complex world. This curriculum is overseen by the International Baccalaureate Organisation (IBO) who maintain the high standards required. The programme is designed to provide a framework to meet a young person’s academic, social, physical and emotional needs.

There is an enquiry based approach to learning with each new topic introduced through a guiding question. A central part of our teaching is the students' acquisition of learning skills (communication, thinking and organisational skills and attitudes) with the aim of enabling them to become independent thinkers and learners. The students are closely engaged in influencing their own learning. All subject grades are criterion referenced and students are always made aware of the assessment criteria.

The school has adoptImage of International School in North London, UKed the best curriculum developments in international education. This is facilitated through interdisciplinary days and the use of linking concepts called the Areas of Interaction. The diversity and depth of the subjects covered facilitates transfer to other schools anywhere in the world at any time. We expect our students to leave us as life-long learners and critical thinkers. Students are also required to undertake community service, a personal project and to gain an awareness of global and cultural issues.

Rochester Independent College, Kent
Courses / Programs
Rochester Independent College, in the County of Kent, just east of London, offers a distinctive alternative to a conventional sixth form and a stepping stone between school and university.

Established in 1984, we accept day students from the age of 11. Boarding is available for A-level students and Year 11 students on GCSE courses who are aged 16 or older.

Students come to us from all over the UK and the world, as well as the local area. There are no bells ringing, no uniforms and everybody is on first name terms. The College has an atmosphere closer to university than school where students are treated as young adults.

About 65 of the College's 280 students are boarders. Our Halls combine the informality of a university residence with the supervision and pastoral support appropriate for young adults.

The College offers students the opportunity to thrive in an atmosphere of managed independence and acts as a stepping stone between school and university.

Our focus is on examination success in a lively, supportive and informal atmosphere. Students are encouraged to be themselves and achieve exam results that often exceed their expectations. Rochester Independent College is accredited by the ISC (Independent Schools Council).
