Canton is located in northern New York State, near the center of St. Lawrence County, nestled at the foothills of the Adirondack Mountains and eighteen miles from the Canadian border. The St. Lawrence River lies only twenty miles to the north and Canton sits at the edge of the broad St. Lawrence River plain. The Town of Canton is largely rural, with population and employment centers located in the villages of Canton and Renssealer Falls.
