Newington College:
Newington College, a K-12 day and boarding school for boys open to all faiths and denominations since 1863, is located in Lindfield & Stanmore, Sydney, NSW, Australia. Years 7-10 boarders are located in the historic Founders Wing - the traditional home for Newington's boarders - and the Years 11-12 boarding house is located in superb new premises about three minutes walk from the secondary school campus.
Newington College has always played a leading role in boys’ education. A school of the Uniting Church, the intake is inclusive and boys of all faiths and denominations have been welcome since the College was founded in 1863.
From Year 7 the boys move to the Secondary School at Stanmore. There is a major intake of new students at this time, although the School allows for enrolment at any stage. The curriculum at the Secondary School provides a solid preparation for the NSW School Certificate, Higher School Certificate and the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme.
The Secondary campus is located on nine hectares in Stanmore, in Sydney’s inner west. The student body consists of approximately 50 boarders and 1050 day boys.
Newington boarders come from country and city, interstate and overseas. Day boys are drawn from all over the Sydney greater metropolitan area. Newington boys lead busy lives, where time management skills and personal responsibility become key areas in boys’ development.
A well developed curriculum offering, focusing on the motivational drivers and learning methods idiosyncratic to boys, is balanced with a wide range of co-curricular options. Newington's aim is 'to provide a well-balanced liberal education nurturing the personal and spiritual development of its students, and assisting them to grow towards the full stature of responsible citizenship'. To this end, an emphasis is placed on pastoral care as a way to nurture and mould boys’ whole growth.
