The Boarding School of Loreto Normanhurst was set up as, and remains, primarily a service for country parents. Many of our boarders come from long distances and often cannot return home. It is especially important for them to feel that they are part of a community. For this reason, Loreto Normanhurst does not offer weekly boarding.

Courses:

Secondary school education for girls in years 7-12. Students have the opportunity to participate in a diverse range of Co-curricular activities.

Boarding:

The school at Loreto Normanhurst was established by Mother Gonzaga Barry in 1897, to make it possible for generations of country girls to obtain an education as envisaged by Mary Ward, the Foundress of the Institute of the Blessed Virgin Mary. In the 1940’s, with the expansion of the local suburbs, the school began enrolling day students. Today, the Boarding School is home to 178 girls, the vast majority of whom are country boarders. The Boarding School occupies much of the original building, which is set within beautiful gardens and includes an area of bushland which contains a rare Turpentine and Ironbark forest, classified by the National Trust. Within the bushland area is the cemetery, containing the graves of 44 members of the IBVM.

A freedom of spirit, a strong conviction for justice and a sense of integrity are fostered in the girls as part of their development as a Christian women. As a Catholic school in the Loreto tradition, the spiritual growth of the boarders is fostered. The week begins on Sunday night with the celebration of the Eucharist and there are many opportunities for prayer and ritual throughout the school year. Each milestone in the life of the boarding community is ritualized – a Welcome Liturgy to welcome boarders returning from Summer holidays and all new boarders, handover of Leadership, Graduation from the Boarding School and the Christmas Liturgy are some examples of how the community celebrates together. Parents are most welcome at the Sunday Eucharist.

Calrossy is an Anglican Day and Boarding Secondary School for girls located in Tamworth, Northern New South Wales. It has one of the largest boarding enrolments among NSW girls' boarding schools.
