Guildford Grammar School:
Located near Midland close to the city of Perth, Western Australia. Guildford Grammar provides an education for boys from K-12 while also providing boarding facilities. Guildford Grammar is an independent School comprising a co-educational Preparatory School which caters for the needs of students from Kindergarten to Year Six and a Senior School which offers an equally diverse range of educational opportunities for boys from Year Seven to Year Twelve.

Arts:
Guildford Grammar has an exciting and innovative Arts faculty, offering students a variety of opportunities to engage in the Arts. Students in the Visual Arts are able to develop skills in such areas as pottery, drawing, painting and lino printing. The Visual Arts has extensive community support with exhibitions and fund raising activities through the year. In Drama, students are encouraged to experiment with different dramatic forms and express themselves in a theatrical context. Performances are also regularly held for the local and wider community in the newly refurbished David Law Davies theatre. The Music Department has a number of bands and an Orchestra which perform on a regular basis at school and public functions. The Choir is also an integral part of the school’s community which brings the Preparatory school and Senior School together in the beautiful setting of the Chapel. Media facilitates the exploration of dominant media forms through analysis and production. Students learn how to construct media texts while also learning about new technologies. Future film evenings are planned to exhibit student’s work.

Media: 
At Guildford Grammar, the Media Department facilitates the analysis and production of Media forms such as film, radio, television, print and multimedia. Students examine how the media works and create productions which reflect their understandings. They are actively engaged in various activities, from traditional media forms such as print and advertising to studying foreign and ‘cult’ films. Students are encouraged to experiment and create innovative and exciting media productions.

Community involvement is an essential part of Media, as students are responsible for taking photographs of various activities and events involving the school and taking footage to create short promotional films. Film competitions and festivals are also entered, showcasing student’s production work.

English:
The aim of the English Faculty at Guildford Grammar School is to provide an innovative and dynamic environment in which boys of all abilities and interests can express themselves clearly and rationally. The Faculty is committed to enabling all students to reach their potential as critical and creative thinkers, thereby giving them the skills and strategies to engage with the complexities of society and culture.

As critical and creative thinkers, the Faculty provides students with ample opportunities to learn and practice the essential functional and critical literacy skills needed to cope with the challenges of the modern world.

Language study is a vital part of a Guildford Grammar School education, and is thus compulsory from Years 5 to 10. Chinese Mandarin is offered at Upper Primary level, while in the Senior School, students have the opportunity to select from Mandarin, French or Indonesian. Courses are designed to be inclusive, and cater for multi-level learning.

Our teachers are innovative, and embrace current LOTE pedagogical methods with an emphasis on communication and "real life language," such as through the use of authentic texts. Students have regular access to learning technologies to enhance opportunities for self-paced learning. We aim to engage and stimulate students, and to foster an interest in language, cultures and life-long learning.

Five TEE language subjects are offered at Guildford Grammar School, catering for both Second Language students and Background Speakers within the three languages.

Mathematics:
The Faculty of Mathematics is committed to providing the best possible education for students of Mathematics at all levels. A highly trained and dedicated staff uses the latest in technological and virtual equipment to ensure that our students are well versed in modern mathematical learning.

In Years 7 to 10 a variety of units are offered, allowing students to study at a level appropriate to their ability and needs. High achievers are encouraged through enrichment programmes and competitions to expand their knowledge, whilst extra mathematics classes are available to help those who find the work difficult.
In the upper school, a full range of TEE and non-TEE units is offered. Students receive instruction from experienced teachers in small classes, and examination techniques are emphasized to best prepare students for the external examinations. The Faculty of Mathematics would welcome any inquiries from prospective parents.

Science:
The Faculty of Science is concerned with providing the very best education for all students of Science at all levels. A highly trained, motivated and dedicated staff uses the very latest in technology, interfacing and science equipment to ensure that students are motivated to learn, and that they are instructed using the very latest in educational strategy, equipment and learning theory. Science is taught to make it relevant and exciting so that it stimulates natural curiosity, problem solving and learning.

In Years 8 to 10 a variety of units and classes are taught which allow students to study at a level appropriate to their individual capabilities and needs. Units include a balance from the Biological and Physical Sciences and there is a focus on practical and theoretical investigation as well as the teaching of key scientific concepts. The emphasis is to make Science exciting, interesting and fun in order to stimulate students to learn and to encourage a career path in Science. It is also on teaching and learning the key scientific principles required to successfully go on and study Science at a higher level.

High achievers are strongly encouraged to become involved in our various enrichment programmes and science competitions in order to further extend, motivate and challenge them. Extra Science classes, held both after school and at lunchtime, are available to help those students who need further tuition. A comprehensive range of school excursions are organised at all year levels to help relate Science learning to the real world and to further motivate students in their studies. The Science Space Centre is a valuable resource used by students and classes to access modern computers and the Internet, and to use interfacing equipment. Virtually all classrooms have Internet and intranet connections, which can be accessed by students using laptops.

In upper school, a full range of TEE subjects is offered including Biology, Human Biology, Chemistry, Physical Science and Physics. Students receive instruction from highly experienced teachers in small classes. Many of the teachers have recent experience as TEE markers and can provide relevant and valuable examination feedback to students. Examination techniques are emphasised in all subjects with detailed feedback and solutions provided to assist students and to help prepare them for their TEE.

The Science Faculty maintains close links and direct contact with each of the major Universities in Perth. The Faculty of Science welcomes any inquiries from prospective students or their parents regarding Science and Science education at this School.

Social Sciences:
Social Sciences encompass the widely recognised disciplines of Geography, History, Economics, Politics, Law, Accounting, Sociology and Management and Marketing. The Student Outcome Statements framework incorporates the following strands; Place and Space, Resources, Culture, Time, Continuity and Change, Natural and Social Systems, Investigation, Communications and Participation and Active Citizenship. Using these strands as the basis of the boys learning in Years 7,8, 9 and 10, the Faculty provides courses which take the student from a local, to a national and finally to an international perspective. In Years 11 and 12, the students can choose in which of the above areas they wish to specialise as outlined by the Curriculum Council.

The students are encouraged to learn about their Society and Environment through hands-on-experiences. The Faculty includes excursions throughout the year in all years, to provide important links to coursework. This strategy is internationally recognised as one of the successful methods to enhance boys' education. In the Years 8, 9 and 10, in each term-long unit of work, the boys are encouraged to develop their skills in many areas including essays and empathy recounts, research investigations, cognitive and data interpretation tests, and simulation exercises. In addition, students are encouraged to develop their technological skills as a tool with which to express themselves.

In Years 11 and 12, students select which Curriculum Course they wish to follow. In most cases there is not a prerequisite course to follow from Year 11 into Year 12, although it is recommended that students maintain continuity from one year to the next. Students are provided with a rigorous course of study and are encouraged to fulfil their potential in their TEE-based courses. The courses taken by the students are skills and processes-based and as such are cumulative over Years 7 to 10. In this way the students are provided with some experience of each of the main Social Science courses, allowing the students to make appropriate choices for Years 11 and 12.

Technology & Enterprise:
The Faculty of Technology and Enterprise provides students with the knowledge and skills which will better able them to cope with the ever-changing world in which they live. They learn about the human built world, helping them to become tomorrow's wise consumers and responsible, technologically literate citizens. Highly trained, motivated and dedicated staff uses the latest tools and equipment along with the latest technological advances in this field of study.

All the technology courses offered by this faculty are designed around the actions of technology. Viewing technology from its actions suggests that people participate in a technological process by;

• Developing technology by applying a technology process to create or modify products, processes, systems, services or environments to meet human needs and realise opportunities. Students investigate, devise, produce and evaluate.
• Producing technology by applying resources to make artefacts and systems available for human use.
• Using technology by applying it to satisfy human needs and wants.
• Assessing the impact of technology by determining the appropriateness of technological actions on individuals, society, and the environment.

These technology actions are conducted within the context strands of technology, materials, information and systems.

The courses in this faculty are designed to be fun and exciting with a "minds on, hands on" activity based program of work. Each course uses the Curriculum Framework and is Outcome Based, where each student is assessed using a set of predetermined outcomes and demonstrated performance indicators.

In Years 7, 8 and 9 the students cycle through courses such as Information Technology, Materials Technology, Systems Technology and Technology Studies. These courses provide students with a basic understanding in concepts, knowledge and skills.

In Year 10 students specialize in areas of study which best suit themselves and their career aspirations. Courses offered include Technical Graphics, Graphic Design, and Materials Technology specializing in a variety of materials, Systems Technology with an emphasis on electronics, robotics and computer control, and Technology Studies.
In Years 11 and 12 students can select from a variety of stand-alone courses, including Technical Graphics, Systems Technology, Furniture Design and Technology, and Metals Technology.

Health and Physical Education:

At Guildford Grammar School, the Health and Physical Education learning area focuses on a holistic concept of health. It recognises the physical, mental, emotional, social and spiritual dimensions of the health of the individual. It examines the impact of interactions between the individual, the family, the wider community and the environment on the health of populations. Students are encouraged to develop healthy practices and to participate in regular, physical activity.
